Random Thoughts & Photos - Dec. 2010

I had my “Cosmo” at The Cosmo, and have been waiting years to be able to say that.

Leaving home Saturday around the same time I planned to arrive set the tone for this trip. Hardly anything went to plan.

Driving over the new bridge (Hoover Dam bypass) is anti- climactic. Had there not been signs that said “do not stop on bridge,” I would not have realized I was driving on a bridge. I expected the same “wow” feeling I had the first time I drove over the Golden Gate bridge.

5 days of rain in Vegas sucks.
I repeat, 5 days of rain in Vegas sucks.

Meeting up with different friends in different locations rocked. Had I not had tickets to The Nutcracker Wed., I would have come home on Monday. My bankroll wishes I came home on Monday. My apologies to anyone I missed meeting on Thursday. After 5 days of rain, I was ready to leave town.

Thanks to the rain, snow, flooded & closed roads, my plans to play tourist and tour areas away from casinos didn’t happen.

I’m too old to function on 7 hours of sleep in 2 days and pull an all-niter. However, the good bubbly at Sterling Brunch helped cure the hangover. Before anyone says “It’s Vegas.” I got home late Friday, had 4 hours of sleep, & had a ton of stuff to do before leaving including packing. I threw whatever into suitcases and hoped for the best. Vegas is historically slow the week before Christmas. I get why the Cosmopolitan was busy Sat. night, however, so was everything else. Center strip was packed Wed night as well.

Just once I would like to visit the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign on my way into town, not out.

Bellagio Conservatory was wall to wall people on Sunday. Despite this, mom’s dressed their kids in their holiday finest and appeared to be taking the holiday family Christmas photos. I went back Thursday morning. The rain finally stopped.

Worth repeating again – 5 days of rain in Vegas SUCKS!!!!!

Monopoly Man in front of Paris. Lots of people didn't realize he was a live statute and screamed & shrieked when he moved.

Lisa; I want to have a cosmo at the Cosmo! Five days of rain in Vegas - wow - that would really be different! Glad you had a good time, thanks for letting us view the Bellagio Christmas display! - Gail
Gail, it was a very good cosmo and I'm sure you will enjoy yours. Out of all the properties that opened in the past several years, Wynn, Encore, Aliante, M, I've been waiting for the Cosmopolitan to open. Perhaps it's my addiction to drinking "cosmos" LOL. Thanks for reading.
We really liked the vibe at the Cosmo.
Nice place. Would like to try a room if the offers ever come.
Happy New Year, Lisa.

Lisa, 5 freaking days of rain? Say it ain't so? You must have been a bad little girl or something, right? LOL

Hey, I hate rain!!!

I don't even like a one-minute drizzle!!!

We were in Florida last month for a week or so and it only rained for about 45 minutes on only one day.

However, my wife still yelled at me, "You promised no rain, you dirty rotten *******!!!"

Sue (Casey) says it's impossible to get lost going to Aliante. Well, she does not know old Jerry, righto?

BTW, that Cosmo (at Cosmo) looks like the bartender liked you, judging by the size of that drink. LOL

Do you think if I show him some leg that will work for me?

Sorry the trip was a bummer, rain and all.

Hi Lisa,

It's too bad the gambling and weather were so uncooperative. While it is interesting reading about your Cosmo at Cosmo, I would have preferred to learn about a win at Wynn.
Monopoly Man. I've seen him too. Didn't know that was who he was supposed to be!!!
Liked your foggy pictures, although five days of rain in Vegas sounds like it sucked. Oh, you said that already, didn't you?!
Thanks for the report. I know the next one will be better.
Well, Jerry with all the JJjjjjjjjjjjjjjs. If I'm not mistaken, the rain came from your home state, the Golden State, and worked its way East LOL. Now that you mention it, I was wearing a skirt that showed some leg, LOL. It was a good Cosmo, not overly expensive for a bar located on the strip. The 3 chocolate ones I had earlier in the evening at Paris's DL weren't bad either. Getting to Aliante is easy. . .and for the first time, I did not get lost when I went to M.

Historically, I go to Vegas late Dec and it maybe rains a day or day and a half. Had I planned a shorter trip and only planned to drink and gamble, it would not have been an issue. This was the trip I planned to do things like drink hot cocoa at The Lodge at Mt Charleston and visit Red Rock Canyon. Those roads were closed due to the lovely (insert sarcasm smiley) weather.

Everyone, thanks for reading and Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you, too, Lisa. It was fun getting together with you again.
Hi Lisa,
I enjoyed finally meeting you and spending time with those cosmos.
As you recommended I visited the Cosmopolitan and LOVED it.
I did well on the gaming floor and they had great access to things for my mom and her walker.
I was gald the rain left late Wed so most of the time we were there it was dry.
Got out of Dodge just before the pineapple express arrived on the 29th.
