Reaching for the Stars - Chapter 17 (final)

Erin, I have to say these casino hotels have created a monster with these outdoor, rooftop clubs that go until 4 a.m. Had a great corner room on the 20th floor of Paris, but couldn't sleep a lick from the pounding coming from Chateau. Even with a pillow over my head. ... Also offered an Indigo suite at Bally's at one point, facing Cromwell. I asked the attendant at Diamond check-in, if the high floor level would negate the noise from Cromwell. She was honest and said no. I settled for standard room facing the garage.

I guess the profit from the silly money at the nightclubs is so tremendous the hotels are willing to live with the consequences?
Jon, thanks for bringing us along in your journey and for sharing the ups and downs. Congrats on renewing 7* and enjoy the benefits.
Jon,

Thanks again for sharing your 7 stars dinner with us, that was such a fun night. Thanks also for the ride back to San Diego, I got to stay an extra night and witness Terry hit two Royals in 30 minutes - now if only you can stay up till 2AM or so and do some late night gambling with us in the future.

I got to hear some of Jon's old band (Shine It On NOW) songs, maybe he can get some numbers on itunes for his public.

Erin,

We loved the Cromwell. The room was smallish but very luxurious. Minutes after we checked in sangria and french macaroons were delivered to the room The bed/sheets were awesome. Huge HD TV on wall - slippers and robes too. We would get nightly turn down service with a little tray of waters and some nights something in addition like an energy supplement, hangover concoction, cookies, ect. Small gym and computer stations near check in as well. The casino floor has free wi-fi like most MGM properties do, hopefully CZR puts this in more of theirs. Probably the most central location you could be in if you go to multiple CZR properties on your trip. As Jon mentioned the free breakfasts are a thing of the past. Just outside the lobby elevators are coffee, hot water, and an assortment of teas.

We were on the top floor - there are only four floors 5-8 - and we never heard Drai's above us. The walls must be well insulated as we never heard our neighbors either. You could hear people through the door easily (knocking across the hall sounded like it was your room, maybe the wood floors are a factor in this) though and traffic was easily heard on the street below. Jon mentions in his Chapter 16 report that he spoke a long time with the GM of the Cromwell at his Giada meal, he told Jon that they are in the process of installing soundproof windows in all the rooms. We were Room 810, facing Flamingo (road), with a nice view of the fountains and the south strip, if car noise is a factor for you and you don't care about your view I'd take an odd, high numbered room which would give you a view of the Flamingo (casino).

We liked it so much that a few months ago we booked both the November and December GGWU weekends and have Cromwell booked Dec 3-8. We were going to cancel it but are now going to try to make that weekend work with the Cromwell being a big factor.

I totally agree with you. At Paris, I was booked into a suite facing the strip for our 7* trip last month, and instead asked for a quiet room at check in since. We ended up in a Charlemagne suite, facing south/east, but I would've much rather had a view of the fountains. I could hear a slight pounding bass from somewhere, but I use a white noise machine, which easily drowned it out.

Timberwolf, thank you so much for the Cromwell info!! I love all of the amenities you mentioned and even though the rooms are on the small side, they sound very nice.

Long story short, we are taking multiple trips for Thanksgiving and Xmas. I was having problems getting everything set up with my host, so I finally said, screw it and just book everything for Paris to make it easy. My host mentioned that Cromwell can be loud with people up until the early morning hours in the halls, making noise. She also doesn't get credit if we stay there, so I kind of felt bad about that too. We are planning on playing some at the Cromwell during our next trips, so maybe we will get free play offers from them.
