I haven’t written a trip report in awhile but I feel like writing one for this trip because I came home a winner and that just feels good. ?
Day 1: I had an offer for 3 nights, $125 FP, and $75 food credit at my home away from home, Red Rock. My son had tickets to a Dodger game on Sunday afternoon so we got a late start on the road. We left Claremont at 6:00 and arrived at Red Rock at 9:30 pm. Our reservation for a canyon side room didn’t leave us with any good room locations at that late hour so I went ahead and upgraded to a suite because I knew that I was going to play enough to more than cover the cost of the upgrade. Note to anyone upgrading: I found out after the fact that I should request a suite in advance from my host (who made the original reservation) as she can always comp it from the casino side but cannot comp it after the upgrade has happened at the front desk. Interesting. Luckily, I had enough points to cover the comp so she was able to use those. It was worth it. We had room 16118, which put us on the first half of the hallway. Anyone familiar with RR knows that it can feel like a long walk if you end up on the far side.
Our luggage was brought up promptly and I was itching to get downstairs and start playing. I have a credit line set up at RR so I started off by heading to the cage and signing for $1000.
I then went and swiped my card and was happy to see that my trip was planned at the perfect time – I still had an offer that was good until the 15th for $40 FP. Yay! My $125 FP wasn’t available until the 16th. Perfect.
I told myself that if Darlene was dealing at a craps table, I would start there. Well, lo and behold, she was there and so that is where I started. It was up and down for awhile, my first turn with the dice was no good but my second turn… I held the dice for approximately 45 minutes! What great fun! The only thing that was odd about the experience was how quiet the table was. There were plenty of people betting but the other end of the table hardly made a peep as I kept rolling and they kept winning. I’ve never had that happen before. Weird. Serious gamblers I guess. I was betting conservatively because this was the beginning of my 3 night trip, so when I cashed in after my roll, I was only up about $500.
Then I went over to the roulette wheel. I know it’s not the best odds but it is a hit and run thing with me. I gave them $100 and asked to play nickels. I play the same numbers every time: $10 on 0, 00, 1, 3, 4, 7, 10, 19, 22, 27. The first spin hit double 0. I then decide to go it again, pulling back to $5 on each number and hit the 10! I decide to go again because I’m up and feeling good so I go back to $10 on each number and would you believe it lands on 3? Incredible. I go one more time with no hit and walk away a few minutes from when I started with close to $600!!! Wa-hoo! I love this casino.
Then I went to have some fun on my favorite slot machines: Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers, U-spin, Megabucks Blue Sapphire, and even gave American Idol a try. Went up on Wizard of Oz (I videotaped some bonus rounds but haven’t figured out how to get it from my phone to youtube yet but when I do, I’ll post info in the gambling section for those who are interested) and down, but ended up winning another $200 and then headed back to my favorite game of craps. The table was back and forth and I don’t remember how it all went but I do know that by the end of the night (which was 3:30 am for me), I bought back my $1000 marker and headed up to the room with $700 and slept like a baby.
Day 2: Woke up around 10:00 and headed to the bagel café to get O.J. and bagels for the family and brought them back up to the suite for breakfast. I walked by my favorite slot machine (Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers) and decided it wouldn’t hurt to put $40 in. At $4.80 a pull, I figured it wouldn’t take long but…. 2 pulls in, I hit a bonus of $150. Then I realized I didn’t have my phone with me to videotape when 2 more spins later, I hit a FABULOUS bonus for $750. Then I cashed out for $950. Love that machine.
After breakfast, it was time to get ready for a day at the pool. Last time we were there, we got a cabana for the day. It was lovely but Jan and I decided that it would be way more fun filled with friends. Since none of our friends were able to join us on this trip, we decided against the cabana. Our favorite waitress, Brandy, was working the pool, so she took very good care of us all day. Our son made friends with other kids at the pool and only visited us for a french fry break. We enjoyed lunch (fabulous veggie burger), a pitcher of a lemonade and alcohol concoction, read books, and had a lovely time.
I had 2 free tickets to the buffet that were expiring that night, so after dropping off Jesse at Kid’s Quest, Jan and went to the buffet for dinner. I don’t think we’ll do that again because as vegetarians, there really isn’t that much for us at a dinner buffet. We usually prefer to use it for the breakfast but didn’t think about that in the morning.
Gambling for the evening:
Started out at craps: Bought in for $600 or $700. My basic bets are usually a $10 or $15 bet on the pass line with full odds, $60 on the 6 and 8, and $25 on the 4 and 10. I’ve started using a 5 count when betting. I don’t bet anything until the roller has rolled 5 box numbers. This ends up saving me a lot of money, and I still get credit for being at the table even though I’m not betting on every roll. A lot of people crap out before the 5 numbers so it’s working really well for me. In spite of this, I was down to my last $100. I was not going to pull out more money because there was THE MOST obnoxious drunk player at the table giving the dealers a very difficult time. I started upping my tip to the dealers because I felt so sorry for them. I have never been at a table with someone that hideous. In spite of this, I
had a good feeling about the friendly guy who was about to get the dice so I said to him, “You’re going to turn this table around, aren’t you?” and put a pass line bet down for him immediately and away we went. It turned out he was celebrating his birthday and 45 minutes later, he was still rolling and my rack had $1,600 in it! By the time he sevened out, at 11:50 pm (10 minutes before his birthday), I was up to a $300 place bet on the 6 and a $240 place bet on the 8, $100 on the 4, 5, 9, and 10. I cashed in, walked over to the roulette table, put down my $100 worth of bets (same 10 numbers) and hit two in a row!!!! I am on a roll. Tried for a third and missed that one so I cashed in and moved on. Then I tried a bit of 3-card poker at a brand new table where you give the dealer your chips and then your credited on a little computer screen in the table in front of you where you make your bets. I liked it, had fun, up and down for awhile and then went right next door to an Ultimate Texas Hold’em game where I had fun but lost about $100. Headed up to the room around 1:00 am with full pockets.
Day 3:
Headed down to get bagels again, stopped at my fave machine, put it $40 and promptly lost it. Had another great day at the pool. There were enough kids at the pool to make it fun for Jesse but we had an entire section to ourselves in comfortable lounge chairs in the shade. I was so relaxed. It’s so good to be on the last day of a trip and be up, we’re all relaxed, the weather is perfect – everyone was happy.
Dinner was at Terra Rossa, our favorite place to eat at Red Rock. We enjoyed a salad, spinach ravioli, and a fantastic wine along with more bread than we should ever have at one sitting.
That night, I put in 5 hours of play. Nothing exciting to report but I so love the games. I had some losses that night but still ended the trip $2,000 up. I called my host on the way home and she confirmed that all expenses were more than covered by my play.
The only negative is that Sunday – Tuesday night, there is no live music at Red Rock so Jan didn’t have much to do while I was gambling. She said she enjoyed the quiet time in the room reading novels and playing on the laptop. I love that about her.
I’ve been invited to several blackjack and slot tournaments but can’t make any of them because of other commitments so our next trip won’t be until October. I’m already looking forward to it. Thanks for reading!
