Reno??

Not sure if this question is allowed, or what area to put it. Many of us are disappointed in Las Vegas now. It is a very different place from the 80's and 90's. I noticed some decent rates for airfare and hotels in Reno. Anyone have good recommendations for good deals on food? I am a fan of coupons and happy hour food. Any tips on places to stay? I won't have a rental car, so was thinking about staying right downtown, hoping there are things to do within walking distance. Any tips would be gratefully accepted. It looked like there were shuttles to Tahoe for a day trip and see some of the casinos there. Thanks.

Reno, as compared to Vegas:

The gambling is MUCH better.

Limits are lower.

Hotel rooms are MUCH cheaper.

Food is cheaper, and there are lots of great places to eat.

It's colder in the winter, but usualy sunny. Summers are MUCH more pleasant.

There aren't that many deals compared to prior years, but then, Vegas doesn't have ANY now.

The Reno airport isn't the existential madhouse that Reid in Vegas always is.

The three CET properties aka The Row are all logical choices to stay: Silver Legacy, Eldorado, and Circus Circus (in descending order of quality and price).

Tahoe isn't worth the trip for the casinos themselves (feels like Vegas), but the ride is spectacular. If you can get onto one of those mini-junkets, it'll be cheap and fun.

BTW, the two best casinos in the area are NOT downtown, but they're within walking distance of one another: Peppermill and Atlantis. Very easy to catch a bus from downtown to either property. And if you decided to stay at either, IMHO you could spend a long weekend and enjoy yourself immensely.

Good info.

Lewis provided very good info indeed.  I think staying in The Row is the right recommendation.  But downtown has dried up some with several smaller casinos closing.  There is The Sands about two blocks behind The Row; it's a bit of a dive, but my wife likes to play bingo there and we have eaten in their coffee shop several times. Our favorite casino is The Atlantis, and we like the Peppermill too, but never stayed at either.  He is also right about the bus easily getting you to both of those on the same route; you can probably spend a whole day visiting those two.  We never had a car so we take that Atlantis/Peppermill bus run every trip--get a 24-hour pass and visit one, than the other.  We have never been able to visit the other casinos because we didn't have the transportation, and we were slow to embrace Uber.  We like Reno--it's much more laid back than LV, with good VP, reasonable food prices and hotel prices.  Hope you have a great trip.

PS.  I think the ACG has(had) a two-for-one coupon for Atlantis buffet--if it's operating again and the coupon is still up--I'd strongly recommend that.

I've heard some say Baldini's casino out in Sparks is popular with locals.   ANyone play there?
