ROYAL Weekend in Tahoe
First of all, let me start our by saying I was very, very good for Christmas. I had a bunch of family visiting for ten days, spent a lot of money for presents and put up with a LOT of rain and cold weather.
So, when I saw the weather was going to be clear (no snow) in Lake Tahoe, I decided that a weekend of video poker, watching football and a few libations was just the ticket. I called up my friends at Harveys (a Harrah$$ property) and headed up Friday at noon.
It is about a 3 hour drive from where I live. The roads were clear and XM radio made the drive go quickly. My room was on the 14th floor and overlooked Lake Tahoe which looks spectacular in the wintertime. I don’t ski but I was told by many of the skiers and snowboarders that the snow was incredible. For me though, I had more important machines er.. matters to attend to.
I like playing at the “Heavenly Bar” at Harveys. Paul is a most excellent bartender and has been at the casino for over 30 years. The schedules are decent with 8/5 jacks, 8/5 bonus, 9/6 DB and 9/5 DDB, not great but not bad for a Harrah$$ property.
For Diamond members, their Lounge is located up on the 12th floor with a view of the Lake and has soup, sandwiches chips and cookies. There are no computer terminals but a couple of big screens, couches and Lazy Boy recliners. Very comfortable! Across the street at Harrahs (accessable from an underground tunnel) they feature a carving station on the weekends in the Presidents Lounge, located on the 16th floor. They served beef on Friday and smoked ham on Saturday. With all the soup, salads and desserts, it was more than enough of a meal for me.
I had many four of a kinds but two really nice hits, both on a DDB machine at the bar. Here was the first, holding two cards and filling in the rest for a sweet $2000 Royal:

And, about two hours later, holding a couple of Aces and filling in the other two and the kicker for $500:

I put 1300 points on my card towards 2012 diamond status and came home with $1700 extra. Not a bad way to start the new year.
