Sam's and Downtown, plenty o' fun

Excellent report. Glad you enjoyed a few shows. My wife has seen LOVE three times. Next trip might try Zarkana.

I've never gotten very good vibes from the Plaza pre- or post renovation. I used to have a good time at the LVC, but over the last 3 or 4 years every year it gets shoddier and more desolate.

Sounds like that douche bag restaurant manager at Oscar's should be taken for a ride out to the desert by "friends" of Oscar's. I'd write a letter to Oscar and let him know. You never know you might get something from it.

Again thanks for the wonderful trip report (very informative and entertaining).

Hey Jon,

Since the LV Club has been brought up, I should add besides no rooms,
they don't even have a restaurant any more. You would think with no rooms
at Binions either, and the recently remodeled Gold Spike, prior to just being
sold, has no room offerings I stayed there poolside a couple times a few years ago
and was satisfied with the rooms and nice outdoor pool. Anyways, you would
think that there would be a room shortage Downtown ? I know that the DT Grand
just opened, but still, not that long ago all these places were full for the most part,
I think. I guess I just kind of miss having 3 fewer places to get room offers from !

Rec, good promos and games come and go quickly at Binion's, guess it's not like the olden days anymore. Anyway, they had some FPDW and 100%+ JoB for a while a few years ago, also some good SD blackjack (quickly pulled back to D10/11 only), also a $10 free ace giveaway (once per lifetime, but not only for new signups). Always good to keep an eye.

Tempting to write to Oscar himself about the little fuckbubble, but I'm not sure how invested he is in the place. I think it's a dead issue now.

I guess there's plenty of room inventory downtown, there's the new Rush Tower at GN, the reopened (for now?) Plaza and the DT Grand. Play options are getting a little tighter, but there's still plenty to play. Like they say, though, it's never good to be married to any one casino. We're kind of new to the game (only been going seriously since 2006), but we're learning that lesson; the Plaza has been our first major good-bye.

Yes, I do know that Binion's previously had some decent stuff but that was several years ago before Terry Caudill took over the place. I didn't know if you meant that they had recently changed for the better.

They're certainly not more generous than in the olden days (which was before we were really serious about Vegas, but I've heard the stories), but they'll have the occasional good promo or game. Overall, they're a VP wasteland, though, no question about that.

But how will I know when to check for the good promo or game? I do on occasion take a look at their website.

I don't think they advertise anything on their website, although I haven't looked in a long time. I mostly watch vpFree, the LVA newsletter, message boards, etc., sometimes just wander through and find something.
Hey, Jon! Thanks for writing about "our trip" LOL. You nailed it pretty good, except Sat at the Plaza I did ok, WITH the help of winning their daily slot tourney by 8 points and getting the $300 free play. Interestingly enough when I compared my results on playing that free play which I kept good track of. Many machines I got about 50% back on.. NOT good, no wonder I lost my arse there on Sunday!! Might be searching for a new home downtown, just too darn tough to win at the Plaza altho I've been staying there each year for some 20 years.
Hi, Linda. Sorry I forgot to include about you winning the slot tournament; best hit all week for any of us. Glad you turned it into some cash.

It is a shame about the Plaza and the LV Club, they both seem to be circling the drain.

Next trip in July; you should come!
