The Screws Fall Out An Imperfect Stay At NYNY- April 2022 Trip Report Part One

Just did a 3 night comp

Plus - comfy bed, nice shower set up, nice pool but small

Negative - hotel is too big. Staff, including front desk are unfamiliar with the hotel

MGM charges for everything. Are pay toilets next?

                  VP terrible

                  Overall casino is dirty

Room needs to be redone. Furniture beat up, rugs worn

We have a multi-trip history involving stays at NYNY, but it's been a couple years since we've roomed there (pre-pandemic). The rooms even at that time were a bit dated and in need of renovation (with old-fashioned popcorn acoustic texture on the ceilings as one indicator). Yet, they were always clean and the overall service levels at that time didn't include the current challenges with service staff issues ( or the mindsets of Strip resort management that presently includes every attempt to squeeze every last penny out of their patrons and exhaust a limited staff, or seemingly so). I'm sure a portion of the service staffs at NYNY and other joints likely don't have great attitudes anymore..who could blame em?

We did , however, always enjoy the base vibe in the NYNY casino and they routinely offered a semi-playable $25/hand double deck blackjack game at the time. We have visited the casino in the past couple years. Plus, at the time anyway, NYNY offered a full spectrum of dining options that spanned the cost scale to include some semi - frugal options ( among comparative Strip options, anyway). As far as I know most of those venues have reopened so some of those provide some comparatively less expensive dining options among Strip locations currently. The America Cafe is one of the few remaining 24 hour venues of its type left on the Strip. We also had a pretty good host at the time..she made some things just a skosh less difficult at times.

Thanks for sharing the TR...enjoyable to read excluding all the NYNY headaches experiences. Those wait times you experienced are truly inexcusable.

Tom, I wouldn't describe the room I ended up in as beat up. The decor was dated but I didn't encounter worn-out carpet or beat-up furniture.  You are not the first person I heard saying they encountered beat-up furniture at the NYNY, so I checked mine out thoroughly. One of the room curtains didn't want to open up but that was about it. Maybe it was because I had a stay-well room and it was better-taken care of?

The one thing that really stood out to me about the room was how clean it was. As I said, I liked the room and the property.  It was sad they were so understaffed and the computer system wasn't up to snuff on my visit.

Charles, I agree with you about the restaurants. There are a lot of good places to eat there and the prices are a lot better than you typically encounter in similar restaurants in other Vegas properties. I want to try that $20 steak special at the cafe the next time I am in town.  That's about what I'd pay for a steak dinner at Denny's around home. I suspect the one at the NYNY cafe is much better.

I saw on the LVA youtube that they will be renovating the rooms.  It might be nice if they added some light to the casino
