Short trip at beginning of November

Frontier Airlines began non-stop service from Norfolk to Las Vegas in August and offered an introductory rate of $89 each way which is a very good price.  I had never flown Frontier but decided to take a chance.  Not sure I would do it again as the flight left at 8:30 PM and arrived after midnight.  I’m getting too old for that kind of flight.  Also, I’ve never landed at Terminal 3 and wandering around in the middle of the night was a pain.  You might be interested in knowing that the 109 bus runs all night so I got downtown to the 4 Queens about 1:30, totally exhausted.

I chose the 4 Queens partly because they don’t charge a resort fee and partly because I had a $50 room credit from playing the Binion’s app on my tablet.  The location was great and the room was OK, if slightly noisy from Fremont St.

I had decided to boycott the Boyd properties except to use my points for breakfast buffet and to play the MBR coupons.  Breakfast at the Fremont was disappointing with only the omelette memorable.  Then off to the Longhorn on Boulder Highway for their noon $10 BJ tournament.

Will pick up the story in a second post later today.

I forgot to login so my second post was lost and I don’t have the energy to re-type it all so here are the highlights.

Palace Station - nicely redecorated buffet but unimpressive breakfast.  Won $99 high hand bonus in the 2-4 limit game.

South Point poker tournament on Wednesday is Crazy Pineapple which I overlooked and their cash game was unfriendly.

Binion’s Poker Room is a pale version of its glorious past but I did make a $40 profit in a tournament chop.

BJ was not my friend - lost all 3 $25 matchplays as well as the majority of my regular play.  VP and slot wins surprisingly offset most of the BJ losses so that I had a $100 or so gaming profit for the trip.

Food was generally disappointing.  In ‘n Out was one of the better meals.  Binion’s beef brisket and root beer were good but the sides were not.  Cafe breakfast was horrible with dry pancakes, frozen blueberries and a chemical drink that pretended to be OJ.  My most expensive meal, ironically, was the $11 Burger King croissandwich combo at the airport.

I generally avoid the Strip because most of the good gambling comes at prices way above my bankroll and I want reasonable prices for my meals, not celebrity chefs.  I rebel against the resort fees.

Enjoyed the nighttime Neon Museum, especially the lightshow.  Went to one show, boring!!

I have been going to Vegas for about 15 years and am slowly losing interest.  I hope to find a friend to travel with me in 2019 and I hope to visit Chinatown.  I am done riding RTC busses with all their driver/passenger drama and will probably try Uber rather than a car rental.  Probably won’t stay downtown, at least near the Fremont Street Experience.  I came home exhausted, never having recovered from that midnight arrival and have learned my lesson.

I have 6 points on my BConnected card and expect to switch to Stations and Downtown as a protest.

Sorry for such a “downer” post, but I’m just not  feeling the magic after this trip.
