Soaring Eagle

I went to the Soaring Eagle last night thinking it wouldn't be too busy. Wrong. It's buy one get one free on their buffet and there is also a Poker tournament in progress. There are a lot of people there, but they are all in line for the buffet, because I found a seat at a Blackjack table with only 1 other player. I buy in for $60 and I lose my first hand and my table mate leaves. I hate playing heads up with the dealer and I lose my next three hands. I leave and go sit down at a Mississippi Stud table. Big mistake. I lose $70 almost instantly. I decide to play some quarter VP and I am down to my last $6.00, so I move to nickel VP. I am playing Bonus poker and I hit 4 aces which pays me $40. A few minutes later, I am dealt a pair of Aces and a pair of Fives. I hold the Aces and I draw the other two along with a kicker for a $100 win. I cash out at $140 which puts me ahead $40 for the night. It's still too early to go home, so I sit down at a Blackjack table and not once did I get ahead of my $40. I would be down to my last bet and I would win. This went on for two hours with me staying right around $20 -$30. I have never played this long without winning or losing. It was one of the strangest sessions of Blackjack I have ever played. I ended up being even for the night.
That's a cheap nights entertainment. I can't believe how people will stand in buffet lines for so long, it's just not worth it.
I had a night of blackjack like that on my last trip. Win, lose, win, lose. So after many many hands like that I got tired of playing, went all in and was going to win and walk away or lose and walk away. I lost. I walked.
Yes, that was a cheap night's entertainment. With Blackjack, it really can depend not only on how many decks of cards are involved, but also the rules offered and whether there is a collection per hand involved (some Indian Casinos do this). The higher the casino advantage is over 0.42%, the harder it is going to be to end up winning.

Oh, and if you have time to kill, maybe you should bring a book or something else to occupy some time. I say that because this "time to kill" could end up becoming very costly!

Do you ever buy the Win Cards? The website says it includes strategy cards, 6 $5.00 chips and more. What is more?

Thanks
DF
For $20.00 you get $30.00 worth of nonnegotiable chips. They can be used at any table with chips. Also, there is a dollar coupon for tipping the dealer. Most dealers let one use them until the hand is lost. It is a fair deal. Every six months, a new set can be purchased.
Thanks Sleepy! I've not been to the Soaring Eagle before but am thinking of making a weekend of it soon. I'm about 4 hours away in Canada. I go to Niagara every so often but the games are brutal. Seeing all the full pay VP they have makes it worth the trip. I have stopped at the small casino they have near Standish twice and was surprised to see Full Pay JOB in a small casino. Most of the Native casinos in the north have brutal VP.

Thanks
DF
Sorry for the empty post. The Standish Casino and Mt. Pleasant Casino are owned by the same tribe. Mt. Pleasant has more to offer, so does the city. Standish will be adding a hotel this year to the casino. Have a good time!
