Soaring Eagle 1 Day Trip (more like 1 hour)

Last Saturday, I had to drop off a Sign that I made for some friends. Since their house is about a third of the way to the Soaring Eagle, I decided that I would go and play some Black Jack. Upon arrival, I see dozens of people in the hallway leading to the parking garage waiting for their bus. I walk into the casino and the place is packed. I think to myself I am never going to find a seat at a table. Well, I am wrong. I walk right up to a table and sit down at third base. I hate third base. There are only men sitting at the table and almost right away I learn that the first two seats are occupied by Octengearians. The gentleman sitting in the first seat is 85 and the gentleman in the second seat is 89. Come to find out a little later, the 89 year old was a guest on the Lawrence Welk Show many years ago.
I buy in for $40.00 and I end up losing it in about 20 minutes having only won or pushed three or four hands. You might think that would be a lot of hands in that time, but in reality it is only about 13 hands if that. The dealer has to help the 89 year old almost every time with his chips and his cards. Nobody at the table seems to mind. After I lose the first $40.00 I buy in for another $40 and I cannot win. Again the playing is very slow so it takes about 15 minutes for me to lose this $40. I am dealt one BJ (my only winning hand, or so I think)with the dealer showing a 10 and of course she also has a BJ. This is the worst session of BJ I have ever played. I leave the table and go to my Favorite Slot Machine and I end up winning back $20.00 of the $80 that I lost at the table. I feel a little better and I decide to leave. On the way the out the same people are still sitting in the hall. I don't mind losing money playing BJ, but it's not any fun when you lose it so quickly.
Thanks for that report and yes, that stinks when the money drains away pretty fast. Was this a $5 minimum table and what kind of rules did you deal with?

If I find decent enough playing rules, the most money that I'm willing to lose in a playing session at a $5 table is $100 and so had I lost $80 of the $100, I might have continued playing until that entire $100 was gone, and then that would have been that for the playing session.

This was a $5.00 table. Standard rules. It was just one of those days where the dealer could do no wrong. The problem with going to the Soaring Eagle is they don't have all the tables open, so it's not like you can get up and go to another table as most of them are always full.

What standard rules? One Deck, Two Decks, Six Decks, Dealer Hitting Soft 17, Dealer Standing on Soft 17, Double After Splitting Pairs? How Many Split Pairs Can You Have? Late Surrender Offered?

But yes, if the Dealer just does good hand after hand, there isn't much that can be done except to do what you can to stem losses. And so I think that your stopping at -$80 was a good idea!

Also, could you sit out some hands and/or wait for a new shuffle? That might have changed things for you.
