Spring Break 2011 (Part 4)

Spring Break 2011 (part 4)

It’s the most beautiful time of year in Laughlin in Las Vegas. The weather is 78 degrees, most the people around you are in good moods (though you can still pass some old curmudgeon who lost too much on a machine bullying his way through the isle), everything just seems to a bit better for everyone. After getting up at 6 AM and back in my room after the fitness center by 7:30, I was able to just relax in my room, write the trip report, check the emails, drink my Starbucks Italian brew, and just do “nothing.”

Last year at this time, I was writing about how my lowly Padres are in first place by a wide margin, this year ESPN is asking if the Padres are ever going to score another run. Things change. I headed down to the casino to swipe my card for tonight’s drawing and to try my luck at the 50-play Super Double Bonus for nickels. The days of the 9/6 Jacks on these machines have gone the way of the rotary telephone and 8/5 SDD is slightly short pay, but it’s the best they got. Yes, $12.25 per hand is very steep for me, but the occasional good draws make it tolerable, plus you can really rack up the points fast.

I was dealt four to the royal once, and picked up one. I also caught another royal holding on two hearts for a Royal total of two for the day. Unfortunately, I was never dealt a quad and the dealt three-of-the-kinds were rare. However, a few dealt straights and one dealt flush allowed me to cash out with a small profit after 7K played. That should be enough extra entries for tonight’s drawing.

I had a $10 food coupon mailed to me along with $10 free play from the Colorado Belle, so I drove on down to pick that up. I used the coupon at a new eatery they have on the second deck called Tortillas. The chicken burrito and taco were very good. I strolled down to the bar to play some 8/5 Bonus Poker. I’ve done very well over the years at this game in here, but today, there was not a quad to be found and I lost a hundred—drat! After I got into my car heading into Bullhead did I realize I had completely forgot to get my $10 free play, which expires next week—guess I’ll be going back tomorrow.

I always go t Bullhead to fill up my tank. There are two gas stations there that always have great prices, and though $3.63 a gallon in nuts in its own right, the stations across the street were $3..80 a gallon. I filled up and after a quick stop at Target, drove on to the AVI casino where they have a movie complex. I saw WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, which I thought was better the most the reviews. I didn’t play at the AVI and drove back to Harrahs.

I hung out at the Diamond Lounge for the next couple of hours playing with my ipad2 and watching some basketball. Harrahs Laughlin really needs to remodel their DL. It’s really showing its wear. It was 5:00 PM and they brought out their “hot meal” for the night, which was Swedish meatballs and pasta. Oh, how I miss the Star Club in Black Hawk and the Diamond Lounges in Atlantic City. I would so love to take the GM of Laughlin there and ask, “OK, what’s your problem?”

The drawing wasn’t for another hour, so I hung out playing 7/5 Bonus poker for $.50 and fortunately had my fair share of quads and cashed out for $135, making the complete day a profitable one, though only about $65, but still a profit…very nice.

So, the drawing was held, fifteen names were called. The guy called for the top $5000 prize wasn’t there (idiot), and another name was called—and it wasn’t me. None of the names called were me—I suck at drawings! One more chance tomorrow.

It was back to the café, another turkey club wrap with coleslaw, and back to the room with another day over. Today’s report—not so exiting. But some days are like that. I’ve been to Laughlin so often that there’s no need to visit places I’ve already seen dozens of times. I didn’t even go to the Riverside for my customary 3 for $20 sunglasses deal, as I still have all of them from my last visit. So, let’s just chalk this up to another “day in the life.”

More tomorrow.
Thanks JMan, for Part 4 of your report and I'm happy not only about your two Royals but that you still ended up the day with profit (I think that any kind of profit is much better than a loss)!

Well good luck with tonight's drawing. You still could do it as long as the player doesn't get too carried away chasing after getting more tickets (which could end up being more costly than a person thought).

I'm now looking forward to reading Part 5 but that is going to have to wait for me to get back online for possibly Tuesday night when Passover ends.

I've enjoyed all four parts, so far, John. Maybe tonite is your night for winning in the drawing...fingers crossed for you. Congrats on the new health regimen...sounds like it's working too.
Waiting for more. Thanks for writing.
Really do enjoy the reports. You have to keep busy when there is no job to get up to go to. A big change in life for you with no schedule. How about Nevada Run 2011? Your mom is in my prayers.
