Summer 2012 – Day 32
Moving day again and I’m packing up for another stay at the Silverton. Sam’s Town is having a 7X slots and 11X video poker multiple points day today, so the plan is to pack things up and put them in the car and come back to go after those 9/6 progressives single lines once again. I can’t believe that I’ve been here for 32 days, played almost every day, and still haven’t had a single line royal.
I sat down and was surprised to see Ellen and Jim at the same bank. We wished each other luck. Things went slow at first but then I started hitting some quads. It turned out to be a long session—almost three hours. I was dealt quads of kings, queens, and jacks (if this happened on my 2-cent 50 play in Laughlin, I would have won $1800—but no). By the time I reached my $100 loss limit, I had cashed out enough to be $150 up and added 3500 points.
I had some time before I needed to check in at the Silverton, so I headed for the city of Henderson. A reader had asked if I’d check to see if there were any full pay deuces at Emerald City casino, which had been rumored. I’ve reported on these casinos a little during last year’s Hit ‘em All Nevada trip, but I thought I’d take some pics while there and walk around a little bit to see if anything has been changed since last year. Most people don’t know these casinos even exist. They’re in the original part of old town Henderson where the police station and town hall are located. Obviously, these places don’t have hotels attached as they’re strictly for locals.
The largest and oldest is the Eldorado which happens to be celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. It only has four blackjack tables which are only open after 2 PM. However, they’ve added a lot of the newer machines and apparently put in some new carpet and a better ventilation system, as it was not the usual smoky atmosphere it’s had in the past. Today, it was pretty busy with most of the people sitting at the bar watching the games and on the newer machines.

I walked across the way to the small Rainbow casino, which is owned by the Peppermill Corp., which is famous for their neon. I’ve been in there a few times before and have always marveled at all the neon inside; however, today, it was all turned off. I didn’t ask anyone why, but it was strange. This place is really just a slot house as it not only doesn’t have any table games; it also doesn’t have any virtual table games either. There is a busy café that had a waiting list as I walked through.

Finally, I made it over to the Emerald Isle Casino. This is also a slot house that has added a couple of wings the past couple of years almost doubling its size. They also have a small restaurant, which like the Rainbow had a waiting list. I was able to check most of the video poker machines and I couldn’t find any with full pay deuces. Actually, every game I checked had bad schedules on them. What sets this casino apart from the others is that most of their video poker games are for 1/2/5 cents. There are just a few that are for quarters and up.

I was walking back through the Eldorado where I had my car parked in the garage and it occurred to me I was hungry. Aside from the orange juice I had with my vitamins this morning, I hadn’t eaten anything all day. The Eldorado café had a spaghetti special so I sat at the counter and had that. It was an excellent meal, which came with an Italian soup that was great and the large bowl of spaghetti along with garlic toast and an Ice Tea. The entire meal was $4.92 (3 ½ forks). There’s no wonder that many Las Vegans don’t cook much at home. It is simply so much easier and cheaper to eat out.
I checked into the Silverton. Once again, I am double booked both here and Harrahs tomorrow. I’ll stay here tonight and take my things, but if I don’t like the room Harrahs gives me tomorrow, I’ll come back here for the night. Of course, last time Harrahs surprised me with a suite, but I’m not expecting that again. I put my things in my room and headed down to the casino the check out some games. Though I’ve sworn off penny games for the rest of this trip, I made an exception for the new Lord of the Rings machines, the one machine where I’ve pretty much consistently won. This time turned out to be no different. I caught a Frodo bonus and it retriggered and I end up with a $55 profit and cashed out.

The only full pay machine you’ll find here is in the high limit room where there are two 5/10/25 cent 100-plays with 8/5 bonus on them. I had $25 in free play as part of my comp, so I put that in and played it off on the full pay machines. I then played a favorite game, Spin Poker, which has Ugly Deuces on them. I had a good session though too many up and downs. Twice I was down to under ten dollars when I caught the quad deuces, but both times on just one line. I end up losing $30 for the session, but ended the day with a small profit. The way this trip has been going, I’m happy ending the day with any kind of profit.
More tomorrow.
