I want to send out a Happy Birthday wish to me. Today is also moving day as we are going to Laughlin for 3 nights. We got packed and our first job was to go by a property management company to talk to them about taking over running our condo. We have a condo in Henderson and our renter has been giving us headaches. We learned what we needed to do. While we were there, the owner brought me some birthday cake and ice cream. The cake was actually for an employee, but I told him thanks for remembering my birthday. He got a kick out of that.
Our next stop was a stop at the Eastside Cannery to put 400 points on my pot for a small sauce pan. We were discussing getting some more cocking pans since some of ours were getting real old. This was the perfect promotion for us. We tried some wheel spin quick quads but saw a $15 drain each in about 20 seconds so we decided to move somewhere else. We found some nickel triple plays with 9-6-5 double bonus and settled for those. I hit a couple of quads early and was about $30 up. Kim had to rebuy and was $30 down. So since we were both playing my card we were half way there. Kim then went on a run where she hit aces twice within 2 minutes. I went on a tail spin. We finally hit 400 points with Kim being $50 up and me being $20 down. We took our pan and left the Eastside Cannery happy for once with a promotion.
Our next stop was Boulder Station for a late lunch buffet. We used the POV 2 for 1 coupon and Kim paid the remainder with her points for my birthday treat. The buffet was ok, but they did have some sautéed fish that I really love and made tacos out of. Our next stop was the Orleans for the promotion of 300 points on your card and you get a women’s wallet. Kim wanted both the black and pink so we both played on our cards. We went over to the nickel triple play progressives with 9-7-5 double bonus. I hit enough quads to stay up most of the session. I was dealt four to the royal in spades once, but didn’t hit anything on any line. I ended up $10 for the session and Kim was $23 down for the session. So the wallets cost us $13 for the two of them which was probably a win since they were nice leather wallets.
It was now time for the trek to Laughlin. We were staying at the Edgewater for a complimentary 3 nights with $10 in dinning and $10 free play. We were given a room in the Solona tower on floor number 21. The trouble with room 21910 is that it is next to the elevator. We had to leave the TV on to go to sleep. The bathrooms are a little out of date, but other than that it is free. We went down to the pool and sit around the hot tub since the pool was so cold. We had a good visit with some fellow school teachers who are from Texas. We didn’t realize it was so late until an employee came up and told us they were closing the pool since It was 10 PM. We were hungry so we went down to Coy’s and split a quesadilla. I actually paid for a meal for once. The meal was filling.
Kim was ready for bed, but I had to stay up a little since we ate so late. I headed over to the Colorado Belle to play some 2-4 limit poker. I had an uneventful session and the game broke at 1 AM. I ended up $30 for the session but still had an hour before I could go to bed to avoid the acid reflux. I walked back to the Edgewater and played some triple play 9-6 double bonus for nickels. I was dealt a jack high straight flush in clubs for a nice 750 coin win, but that wasn’t enough to keep this from being a losing session. I cashed out $20 down when it was bed time.

We decided to head out to Oatman, Arizona since we had heard so much about it from other people’s trip reports. We stopped in Bullhead City for some 2.51 gas then went to the long climb to Oatman when we turned off the main highway. We got into Oarman and really enjoyed the rustic old town. We saw the noon time shoot out and feed some of the burrows. The only down part of the town is the periodic smell of burrow crap. We ate and one of the restaurants in town and had a good meal. We did a little shopping. We actually found a couple of Christmas presents for family. We started to head back to Laughlin. I noticed I was getting 27.7 MPG on the new tank of gas when we left Oatman. I have a standard so I put it in neutral and cruised all the way back to Hwy 95. When we got to 95, I was getting 40 MPG.
We made a stop at Wal Mart for some supplies and heading back to our room. It was almost 6 PM so we decided to head over to Colorado Belle for some poker. There was a waiting list for 2-4 limit so I sit down at the progressive 10 coin nickel Jokers Wild by the poker room. I was holding my own getting a few quads then started to go downhill. I was $6 down when my seat was called. Kim lost $20 in about 10 minutes in some dumb slot then lost another $11 playing nickel video poker before she was called.
Kim sit down and was in the big blind and was dealt a nut club flush first hand out. She had K-Q of clubs and the ace and 10 was on the board. She needed just the jack of clubs for a royal flush. She never did connected on the royal for the $500 bonus, but did win a nice pot. We both had good sessions after that with none of us getting big hands, but just steady winners periodically mixed with many folds between the winners. We cashed out after two hours with Kim showing a $2 profit and me being $23 down.
We decided to cash out around 9 to listen to the house band. I can’t remember the name of the band but they played a wide variety of music. We listened to the first set that included some classics such as “Brown Eyed Girl” then some country and even a little Bee Gees. There was one older guy who was dancing with himself. There always seems to be one “character” like that who seems to be a regular. We were getting a kick out of watching him dance. The band took a break and we were hungry so I went to the deli to get us a bit to eat. I had a $10 coupon that came with the room and used it to get a special that included a sandwich, fries, fruit cup, and drink. This all cost only $10. I came back to the table and there was the older guy sitting talking to my wife. He went on to tell us he was a worth 1 million dollars and that he wasn’t here to impress anyone. The band started back and he went to dance with himself and sometimes with others. He would take a periodic break and come over and tell us the same story. We sit through three sets and finally called it a night shortly into the fourth set which consisted of hip-hop which we weren’t into. We called it a night and headed to the Edgewater.
July 11, 2015,
We slept in and woke up around 11. We ate some pop-tarts for breakfast and decided to take the walk from where the bride crosses into Laughlin to the Davis Dam. It was a pleasant morning for July and the temperature was in the low 90’s. We had a pleasant walk which took us a little over an hour. We were really hungry when we got back so we decided to stop at In and Out to get a couple of burgers for lunch. We went up to the room for some needed showers before talking the casino for the day.
We decided to head back over to the Colorado Belle for some more 2-4 limit poker. It took us both a little time to get on the table since there was a waiting list. We both each lost $20 playing video poker waiting to get our table. We were eventually on the table and started playing. Kim slowly lost and I bounced back and forth. We planned to play until around 6:00 then go eat because we had tickets to see Creedence Clearwater Revival at 8:00. A little before 6:00 they brought popcorn shrimp to the poker room so we opted for the free meal and stayed and played until 7:15.
We went to our room to get ready for the CCR concert. We had front seats on the 2nd section which was nice for leg room, but bad since there was lots of foot traffic in front of us during the concert. I enjoyed the concert, it was really for Kim, but I found the band energetic and I knew a lot more of their songs than I thought. Towards the end of the concert they were singing “Have You Ever Seen the Rain”, and a guy in a “NOMAM” shirt from the TV show Married with Children pulled me up to dance with him. He told me he was at his bachelor’s party and he had just a few liquid refreshments in his system needless to say.
We finished the concert and went back and played poker for another hour or so then called it a night. I finished the day $20 down and Kim finished $78 down after about 5 hours of poker for the full day. We went back to the room and called it a night. Tomorrow we head back to Las Vegas.
