Summer Fun Part 4

July 15, 2015

Today was young at heart so Kim and I decided to play both on my card since she is only 49. We both went back to the 2 cent triple plays. I had 9x points on my multiplier for video poker. We played about 3 hours and Kim lost $40 and I broke even. I had about 1500 points on my card so with the multiplier it added up to some nice comp points. I had earned a free buffet for young and heart and Kim used some of our points to hit the Sam’s Town buffet. Their buffet is not the best of the Boyd’s but it is always decent and filling.

We decided to go to the pin ball hall of fame for diversion from gambling. We bought $20 worth of quarters and killed most of the late afternoon playing pinball and video games. We had a great time and it was a break away from the casino. It was getting evening so we decide to go down to Fremont Street to listen to some of the band. One band was playing some classic rock so we listened to them for a couple of sets. We then walked down to the Fremont and had decided to play 250 point on our cards to get their buffet for the next day. We found some 10 play penny machines that had 9-6-5 double bonus. We started playing on Kim’s card first and when we got to 250 I decided to head back to the car to get our coupons. Our original plan was not to play at all. I walked by the player’s club and saw a promotion that if you put 100 points on your card you get a free breakfast buffet the next day. I decided to save our coupons for our Christmas trip and just have us put 100 points on my card. We cashed out with me being $10 down and Kim was $1 up. We got our vouchers for the morning and went out to listen to the band some more. None of them were playing our type of music so we just decided to head back to Sam’s Town.

I had a $10 voucher to burn for the Young at Heart after 7:00 when I hit the kiosk. So we listened to the band at Roxy’s and shared a sandwich and fries. We were the only one in Roxy’s so they took request from us. I had to mention “Free Bird” but they weren’t up for that so I settled for “Sweet Child of Mine”. Once the band quit, we headed to our room.

We got up early for us and headed over to the Fremont to eat the free breakfast buffet we had earned the prior day. It was 10:45 so we actually got to enjoy both breakfast and lunch. This was my first time to go to the Fremont buffet. There wasn’t as many selections as the other Boyd’s casinos, but I did like the old school feel of the buffet and the food was adequate. Kim couldn’t resist a slot she had seen a guy win on the prior night. It was $2 a pull. She put her twenty in and about 2 minutes later was drained. The slot had the Big Bang Theory theme to it and I guy had been hitting huge bonuses the night before when we were leaving the Fremont. We stopped by the El Cortez and I had one more $10 free play to use. I played it through once and cashed out $7 up.

We then headed back to Sam’s Town to play a little on Kim’s card since it was 7x point day. We both went back to the triple play 2 cent progressives. Kim hit quad aces early and hovered most of the day. I was hovering too when I was dealt four to the royal in clubs and hit the queen needed on the 2nd line for a $168 royal. We put in 3 hours and I cashed out $210 out after hitting quad aces a couple of times. Kim did end up $40 down, but it was a nice win for the day.

Our next destination is the Eastside Cannery to put 400 points on my card for another sauce pan. We sit down at some triple play nickel machines that had only 9-6-4 double bonus. Neither of us were having any luck and had both dropped our first twenty. We only had a combined 120 points at this point. We walked around and found some ten play pennies with the same pay schedule and decided this would be a less volatile way to play. It was a complete grind and I ended up $51 down and Kim stayed even on her machine to be a total of $20 down for the whole session. We got our $71 sauce pan and headed to our next promotion.

The Orleans had a promotion of 300 points would get you women’s purses. There were two colors for options so we decided on each getting 300 points. I went to my bank of triple play nickels up front while Kim went to the back. This was an uneventful session for both of us. We were both able to play on our first $20 we put in and I ended up $15 for the session while Kim was $10 down. We gathered our purses and each went to the black jack tables for $10 match plays. I was dealt a pair of 8’s with the dealer showing a 6. I split them and got another 8. I hit to all my hands and the dealer turned over 10 for a 16. The dealer then drew another face card for a bust. I walked away $40 up and Kim walked away $20 up.

We went over to the Gold Coast to meet up with Joe and Tonya. Joe was finishing up getting 300 points on their cards to get the ACG buffet for Friday Night. We were waiting for him to finish and saw that if you put 50 points on your card you can play in the free video poker tournament. Another 100 points would allow you to play twice. I sat down at some triple play nickels that for an extra nickel per line gave you added bonus on the quads. I played 8-5 bonus that had 1000 for aces 600 for 2-4 and 400 for the remaining quads. I hit quad jacks and kings to minimize the damage and was $10 down after obtaining 150 points. Kim went to her favorite 3 was action and lost $5 getting 4 points. We went to the video poker contest and neither of us did well on our first run. On the second round, I hit aces with a kicker on their double-double bonus. I had around 3100 points. They gave free play to the top 50 and the lady who took my score said I would probably be in that top group. It wouldn’t be posted till midnight so I could check when we came back the next day to eat.

We all jumped into Joe’s car and were heading out for dinner and a little more coupon using. Our first stop was Tuscany’s. I was going to use a match play and their $10 free play from the ACG. However when I went to the both to use the coupons they wanted to see the little card that goes with the book. I had both cards in my car. So Joe and Tonya played their coupons. Kim and I decided to play for 200 points for yet a little more swag for the day. They had some storage bowls with this promotion that caught Kim’s eyes. We found some penny 10 plays and pounded away on my card. I ended up $8 down and Kim was $1 up when we reached our goal. I figured that $7 would be close to the retail cost for the bowls.

Our next stop was Ellis Island to use the ACG coupons for match play, $10-$100 free play and free entrée with 200 points earned. We sit down at some nickel single line 7-5 bonus machines. We were doing well then started going down-hill. We took a short break to redeem the ACG and LAV free play coupons. Kim got $10 on her ACG. We only had one LAV book so I got a total of $30 free play. We went back and I continued to go downward while Kim got hot. We finally got our points with me being $1 down and Kim being $37 up. Joe had given up after losing $40 in short order playing slots. I talked to him about playing video poker instead for these promotions and finally got him convinced to do that instead. He settled on using his 2 for 1 coupon instead of the 200 points free entrée.

We got our seats and Kim and I ordered steak and shrimp. The meal was great as usual. We hit the match plays after and I got a black jack for a $12.50 win but Kim lost. We then headed downtown for some more match plays. We stopped at the Grand and I signed up for a card. I thought about chasing some of their rebate promotion, but there was no way we could be back at one of the three times you needed to be to receive your free play. I did decide to play $100 in the Big Bang Theory machine knowing I could at least play for $75 of it if I lost. The 2nd spin I hit a bonus and won $28. I decided to walk with the small profit. I also hit two match plays for another $32.50 with one of them being a black jack.
Next stop was the D and I lost the $25 LAV match play. After taking out their 101.7% deuces the only reason to visit this place is the Sigma Racing upstairs. I am just two old to sit around and listen to the thumping music they play. We then went to the El Cortez. I had $10 in free slot play and cashed out $7 of it playing it through once. We went back out to Fremont and listed to the band for an hour before calling it a day.

The bad news is that it is moving day again. The good news is that we are not going very far as we are going to the Eastside Cannery basically next door. I was emailed an offer at one night at the casino rate ($60) and the next night free. I figured this wasn’t bad for a Friday and Saturday night. The other positive is that there is no resort fees at the Cannery properties either. So we would be going all 12 nights avoiding a resort fee so far. We checked in and this was my first time to stay here. The rooms seemed fine. We went and checked out the pool then headed to the casino to play a little.

We played the 10 play pennies again with the goal of playing 300 points for a piggy bank that had different free play offers in it. We again just played on my card and Kim was $43 down when we hit our goal. I was $15 down. I got my piggy bank and had $20 in free play. I played it and managed to move back into the positive and actually cashed out with a $12 win.

We then headed up to Henderson to visit our condo. We wanted to touch bases with our renter. She was a no show and that might be because she was a little behind on the rent. We decided to stop back and play at the Fiesta for 300 points and getting to swipe our cards for a prize. We went back to the penny 10 play progressives. Kim got dealt quad 4’s which carried her to a $10 victory after 300 points. I didn’t fare as well dropping $28. We went to the player’s club and Kim won 3000 points and I won a free buffet.

We then went to the Gold Coast for dinner. We had earned our buffet earlier in the trip. We met with Joe and Tonya for a crab leg feast. We stayed close to two hours peeling leg after leg. I went out and found out that I had finished 8th in the video poker contest which was good for $50 free play. I played my free play through once cashing out $50 up playing triple play bonus poker. Kim played a little on some single play nickels while I played losing $8 along the way.

We then headed to South Point to go to a show called the “Metal Shop”. It was only 7:30 and the show started at 9:00 so we decided to put 300 points on our cards and earn buffets for the next day using our ACG coupons. However we didn’t have time to get enough points on both cards so we decided just to get them in Kim’s card for tonight. We sit down and played some 7-5 bonus at the nickel level. I hit a few quads and had a good run. Kim would jump a little up then a little down. By the time we had our points I was up $19 and Kim was down $8. So South Point would be paying us $11 to eat their seafood buffet for one at least.

South Point did get $10 back since there was a $5 charge to see “Metal Shop”. This was basically a glorified house band, but they played on a stage with nice lighting and videos that went along with some of the songs. They played many of the hair band favorites from the 80’s and played for close to 2 and ½ hours. I thought they were well worth the $5 to get in. It was close to midnight once they were done so we headed back to the Eastside Cannery for the night.
Very nice! Thanks for this report and good going on all of the promotion and coupon chasing as well as on the Royal Flush!
