Summer of Tournaments - Day 11

Summer of Tournaments – Day 11

It’s moving day, so after getting up I packed and left everything in the room and went down to breakfast at the buffet. Sam’s Town buffet is not a very good one compared to most but for breakfast, it’s just fine and especially when it only costs $4.85—less than a large orange juice at TGIFridays. I’m in the middle of the Chris Moneymaker book, so I take me Ipad along with me during meals and get in some reading as well.

I checked out, took my things to the car and came back to take one more stab at the $23 poker tournament. Like a broken record, I went out in the 4th session. No bad beats or bad plays this time around. I won some hands but not enough to keep me in for long and the blinds finally got to me and had to take a shot going all in with K/Q but ran into Aces on the flop. Oh well.

It was too early to check into the Paris, so I thought I might go see “How to Train Your Dragon 2.” It was showing at Boulder Station, which is just down the street from Sam’s. I drove by the pizza place that the two police officers were shot a couple of days ago and the front of the store had a shrine of flowers and candles so I stopped quickly to take a pic. Ironically, right across the pizza place was a gun store.

The impromptu shrine built up for the two police offers shot and killed inside

I haven’t been to the Boulder Station in quite a long time and wondered if there had been any changes. I walked around the entire casino area and it’s pretty much as it was when they first built the place. Even the sports book still has the sliding white boards where everything is updated by hand—c’mon guys, get with the times. Though there’s not much new here, it’s still kept up nicely and on this Monday afternoon, it was very busy. They do deal a 2/4 game here with jackpots.

Boulder Station on a cloud-covered day made it very nice outside

I was expecting to dislike the movie. The trailers made it look a little silly, but I was surprised to find that there’s quite a serious story here and it wasn’t too “cute” for kids. The movie was pretty good. I headed for the Paris and checked the car into valet and got a snice room, though it’s a little on the small side, it has a terrific view of the pool, the Bellagio Fountains and the Eifel Tower.

I unpacked everything and headed down to the promotions desk to get my machine number for the tournament. I’m here on a three night slot tournament offer. My time is 9 AM for both days. It honestly doesn’t matter as slot tournaments are a complete crap shoot. You tap the button and pray some triple 7s show up in your five minute session. We’ll be playing Tuesday and Wednesday with the two scores added together for the total scores. They will be paying all the way down to the top 250 players (there are approximate 650 total). Also included in the offer is $25 in free play which is given to us at registration. The video poker tournament last week gave us $40 free play. I debated whether or not to add these free play offers to my totals at the bottom each day and I believe my point of keeping these totals is to show what I WON in the tournaments, not what I was given. So, these little incentives won’t be in the totals.

The lobby area at the Paris is still one of the nicest lobbies in Vegas.

After playing (and losing) some video poker for a while, I headed over to Diamond Lounge for a drink. One thing these tournaments do is bring in lots and lots of Diamond and 7 Star players, so the lounge was packed. I got a place at the bar, but the cool bartender, Ron, was off today. I didn’t feel like their dried out wings tonight, so I finished my drink and bought a slice of pizza and a soda and headed up to my room for the night.

More tomorrow

Totals:

Tournaments: 8 Cost: $115 Won: $1000 Balance: $885

Thanks as always, JMan for the report and photos!

What you could do maybe if you want is to have a separate section where you mention what Freeplay you got and what you were able to get out of it (although that would be more accurate if you cashed it out the second that it was played through exactly once).

I think I've stayed in that room, I have pretty much the same pictures!
