Summer of Tournaments – Day 20
This morning didn’t start very well. I was up last night with what is turning out to becoming a summer cold. However, I’m a vitamin taker and I’ll fight this out. After getting the report off, I met Martin and we went down to play off our free-play. Wednesdays are Senior Days with plenty of goodies for us old geezers. We get multiple points from 7 to 7; a $4 movie voucher, drawing tickets for cash prizes, a free lunch buffet and free dinner buffet when you put 100 points on your card—easy to do with the free-play. In addition to all of this, they’re also giving away a free bottle of sparkling wine. It pays to be old when at the Orleans.
The hunt for the first royal continues as the day’s gambling proved to be more of the same. There wasn’t a lot of damage done, but it wasn’t a winning day either. We enjoyed a movie and then the lunch buffet. I went up to the room to lie down for a bit in order to feel a little better while Martin worked at the nickel 3-play progressives and cashing in a small profit after catching quad Aces twice. I did manage to watch the last couple of innings as the Giant’s pitcher Lincecum no-hit my Padres for the second time in as many years.
LVA reader David (timberwolf) was coming into town today and would be arriving at the Hard Rock Hotel where he has some comp nights and free play, and so I said my goodbyes to Martin, who heads back home tomorrow and drove over to the Hard Rock. I haven’t been in this casino in a really long time, and they’ve really changed it around. Gone are most of the slot machines on the main floor surrounding the center bar and in their place where table games. The new casino wing had a small section for poker, though there was only one table going when I was there. David arrived and we walked up to his room so I could take some pictures of what the rooms look like in the new wing.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino as the sun begins to set

The room is nicely anointed but follows the trend of being long and narrow

The flat screen TV seems a bit small against the larger wall space it hangs on

His room has a great view of the pool area which should make s for some great viewing this weekend.

The Hard Rock is full of these displays of items from bands—I’ve no idea who these are.
The clientele of the Hard Rock is quite a bit different than most other hotels in Las Vegas. The vast majority of customers were 20 and 30 something’s with just a scattering of oldsters like me wondering around looking lost and out of place.
Dave and I soon headed over to Harrah’s to enjoy a drink in their Diamond Lounge. There were a lot of things going on as traffic getting into the hotels was bumper to bumper. Even the Quad’s valet had a wait before I could drop off the car. In the DL, Robert the talkative bartender was off today. We ordered a drink and had a nice chat. I didn’t stay long as I wanted to get the report done, watch a little SYTYCD, and get some sleep. Sorry this report is a little skimpy. Hopefully things pick up the next couple of days.
More tomorrow.
