Summer of Tournaments - Day 26

Summer of Tournaments – Day 26

Needed a good night sleep and got it. I met Martin down at the buffet for breakfast. We then went for the 10 AM tournament for $23. Can lightning strike twice? We had a half hour before it began, so we also played a little of the triple play for nickels and I won $35 just before the tournament With 40 people in the tournament, I lasted just a little over an hour and then went out number 17. Martin was still in it, so I headed upstairs to play some 9/6 Jacks. I played for almost an hour and profited $25 and cashed out. Martin was supposed to come meet me, but as he hadn’t, it was a good chance he was still in the game. I went down stairs and he was at the final table.

After about a half hour with four people left, they decided to chop it and all walked away with $158.00. It was Martin’s first tournament money in a while, so he was pretty happy. We had a sportsbook deli hamburger special (excellent) and watched Brazil blow another game. We placed a couple of bets on the Padres and went upstairs to try my luck at a Blazing 7s slot that had a really high progressive. I didn’t win that, but I did manage a $25 win. We then played the progressive 10-coin nickel Joker’s Wild and I cleared another $40 on those—having a really good day thought the wins are all small—but wins are wins. We thought we might drive over to the Silverton to take advantage of some free play and to just get out and about for a while.

We made a stop at the newly opened water park on Galleria, which I had reported on a couple of weeks ago. It’s open now and with the temps at 109 today, it was really busy. It looks great and should be a hit during the summer months.

It’s 109 degrees, so plenty of people on the big slide

The Silverton was having a “birthday slide” promotion when you make 300 points, you can swipe your card at the kiosk for an assortment of gifts and freeplay. We played the 100-plays for dimes in the high limit area that have 8/5 Bonus on them to make the 300 points. I was up $9 and Martin lost $37. We swiped the cards and I won $25 in free play and Martin won $10. We played some penny games (it was 10X points on reels). I cashed out $18, but Martin lost a little. So, all told I only made a $100 with a slew of small wins. My Padres lost 1-0, so there goes that ten bucks.

More tomorrow

Love your trip reports! I've been away from the forums since early in the year, so I read all 26 of your TRs this evening - made for a very fun evening. How many days will you be in Las Vegas on this second part of your trip?

As a side note - the Million Dollar Quartet came to one of the local MN casinos late in 2013, and my wife and I went to see it. As you said, it was fantastic, with a really great Johnny Cash and a Jerry Lee Lewis that stole the show. I didn't know what to expect when I bought tickets, but it was one of the best shows we saw all year.

(And I hope you do well on your second part of the tournament run)
Hi JMan,

Thanks for this report but unless my math is wrong, I think that you cleared almost $130 (-$23, +$35, +$25, +$25, +$40, +$9, +$18) which equals +$129, which is I think a decent return!

I'm happy that Martin cleared some nice $ too in the tournament! And send him my regards!
