Summer of Tournaments - Day 38

Summer of Tournaments – Day 38

It’s moving day and I packed up and left the Plaza. I walked around the casino for a little while as a reader mentioned they’d be there in the morning but no one seemed to recognize me so I headed out after a small breakfast. I drove out to Summerlin but it was much too early to check in, so I thought I might make a quick stop at the Rampage Casino, which is right next door. I hadn’t been here in a couple of years and remember that they have excellent Keno schedules on a few of their Game Kings.

The casino hasn’t changed much in the past years, but remains beautiful.

She showed me a bank of 10-play machines that have 8/5 Bonus Poker in all denominations including nickels. This is a great find for small limit players. It didn’t work for me however as I simply couldn’t seem to get dealt any good hands. The casino is a large circle and years ago the center was all tables, though now more and more machines have encroached that area.

I drove over to the Suncoast, which is going to be my next stay, but only for one night. As I mentioned last month when I stayed here, if you’re not so concerned about staying by the Strip, this is a great place. It’s reasonably priced; all the rooms are spacious with flat screen TVs, a coffee maker, a refrigerator, and free Internet.

My view this time around. It seems I’m always given a room facing north

A nice view from my room looking straight down

I went down to the theaters to meet Mike and Janice as we agreed at dinner last night to see CHEF and it just so happened to be showing here. Today was Thursday, so the popcorn was free with your slot card. I’ve seen this movie already but was happy to see it again as it’s the best movie of the summer for me. It’s been out three months now, but I was surprised to see that the theater had quite a few people there. It was as good as the first time. Both Mike and Janice (who has a daughter who happens to be a chef) loved it as well.

We said our goodbyes. I spend the rest of the afternoon playing at the bar tops looking for the elusive royal (only one this summer) but once again, left frustrated. I had dinner at the buffet on a comp. This buffet is really only average with the usual stations. I went to the BBQ station, and noticed that there was chicken, potatoes, roast beef, potatoes, but no BBQ. I ask the guy slicing the beef where the BBQ was and he said there was no BBQ today. What? I just shook my head and walked on down the line.

I didn’t go anywhere else today and went up to room to catch up on some reports, emails, and such and called it a night. It was just one of those days that not much happened and I didn’t anything worth writing about. It was 110 and simply too hot to explore.

More tomorrow

Thanks, JMan for your report as well as for the photos.

Do you mean Rampart Casino instead of Rampage?

I did visit there once when I had a LVA Members' Meet at Red Rock (on the day that was 115 Degrees [which was extremely uncomfortable for me]) and it seemed like a nice place. I remember it being a nice looking place!

As for 10 play VP machines, I find that they can get costly especially since (unless things have changed since the one time that I attempted to play one) you have to bet all 10 lines at full coin in to get the full amount of return (with the Royal Flush paying 4,000 coins). Even at the Nickel level, it sort of becomes the equivalent of playing on a 50 Cent machine (unless someone is well financially equipped for this).

As for having a BBQ station but no BBQ, that's pretty strange to me!
