Summer of Tournaments – Day 40
First thing was my 10 AM session. Video poker tournaments give me the best shot at coming in the money simply because it’s the game I know and play best. However, I’m still at the whimsy of luck. There are two sessions today, 10 AM and 2:20. I sat down at my machine (old style stand up machines) and as usual, Double Double Bonus. The ten minute session went okay. I only managed one set of quad 8s and finished with 1030 points. I checked the row of machines I sat in and mine was the highest score…for now.

Players getting ready for the first session
I walked around for a little while and noticed two major changes going on. First, next to the buffet, they’re adding a Noodle restaurant. I walked around the curtain to grab a pic. Also, and disappointing is that they’ve closed the coffee and pastry shop and are currently making a Martorano’s Italian restaurant in its place.

The newest addition to the Paris soon to open, Yong Kang Street
I had about four hours to kill, so I walked across the street to the Flamingo to see if I could get into a 2/4 game. I bought in for $60. My first hand was dealt pocket Aces and won. The second hand I was dealt A/K and won the hand. The next three hours went pretty well with the usual ups and downs, and at one point I was up over $100 but went on a cold streak and cashed out $70 ahead.
The second session of the tournament went just okay. I did manage quad 4s, but with no kicker. I end up with 1230 points; however, the players on each side of me had a better score. I feel that if I can break 1000 tomorrow, I should at least have a shot at the $100 free play awarded players 101 to 250 (725 total players). I saw some of the craziest moves. When I sat down at my machine, the person before me had held an A/7/7. I watched one lady, who was playing really slow hold an 8 of clubs and a 9 of diamonds. There are so many people who don’t know how to play at all.
I picked up my car from the valet and decided to go to the South Point in the hopes my poker luck would continue. This is where Judy and Dennis are staying. They’re from the Cleveland area and are here for the MPT festivities as well. I spent some great time with them when I stayed in Cleveland at the Horseshoe last year.

We had a nice visit, I bought a couple of their great $.75 hot dogs and headed to the poker room and once again bought in for $60. I played for the next few hours and won a few hands but lost far more than won and the outcome was a dismal lost. At least I’m “up” for the day…to the tune of $10.
