Summer of Tournaments - Day 43

Summer of Tournaments – Day 43

I checked out of the Silverton (the first time I’ve stayed somewhere and didn’t play a dime—we’ll see if it burns me later). I drove to McDonald’s for breakfast as they have free Internet so I could send in my report and check my email.

I drove down to Henderson to go to Sam’s Town to play in their poker tournament and got there just in time. Though I only one small hand the first hour, I caught a few pots and managed to get to the final table only to be ousted in 6th place—very close. I played some 9/6 Jacks on the progressive bank of machines that are over $1100. But again, my poor summer video poker streak continued.

It was close enough to check into the Cromwell, so I headed up Flamingo hoping to park in the parking garage; however, everything was cordoned off except the valet as it turn out valet is the only option here. There is no Diamond or 7 Star registration. As the clerk says, “Everyone is a VIP here.” Okay. I was given room 826. He clerk asked me which paper I’d liked delivered to my room every morning with my choices being USA TODAY, WALL STREET JOURNAL, or the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Also, breakfast is included downstairs every morning from 7 to 10. I inquired about the 7 Star perk of free movies and Internet and he didn’t know, but checked and confirmed it was.

The front desk clerk escorted me to the elevators where there’s a security guard to check my key and opened the elevator for me. When I found my room, neither of my keys worked. Fortunately, the housekeeper was working on the room next door, checked my registration and let me in. I called down and they said they’d send up someone with new keys. The TV is a beautiful 55 inch HD flat screen. Another problem: The TV remote would not change channels. I called down and she said she’d have someone up in a little bit. After 20 minutes, the TV began to work fine. The room is beautifully furnished. This is the only hotel room I’ve ever been in that is not carpeted. It has hard wood floors.

There are only 168 rooms on eight floors, which might account for the special care given each guest. In the middle of each floor at the elevators is hot, fresh coffee in the morning and pitchers of iced pitchers of water with fruit in the afternoon. Dennis and Judy came to visit and check out the room and while there, a knock on the door. It was a man in a chef’s coat who delivered chilled Champaign and two glasses.

The bed is super soft—almost too much so

The 55-inch TV (60 channels) and there’s an elaborate room bar in the chest.

The bathroom is very small but modern with a walk-in shower with two outlets

The view from my window with the Bellagio fountains to the right

All said, the room is small but spectacular and the clinches in the beginning aside, the service is the best I’ve experienced. I drove over to the Hard Rock to meet up with David (timberwolf) as we were going to car pool to the Angel Park golf course in Summerlin to meet up with the ECLVA group for the annual putting contest. This is a beautiful spot with Las Vegas in the background and as the sun goes down and a small breeze develops, the conditions were perfect for a night of fun

I joined the skin group (one dollar each per hole), the next group were the girls, while Norm, Paul, and Dennis played in the third group. After almost three hours, the skin game ended with David winning the lowest score and took home the champion trophy. He and Jim were the big money winners. It was a great night. The group headed out to celebrate with some food and beer, and I headed back to the Cromwell, which was simply buzzing with business and everywhere were 20-somethings with girls in their very short skirts and dresses and the guys with their unbuttoned from the top shirts. It’s almost like there’s a uniform code. They were all here to party at the Drai club upstairs. I was worried that being on the top floor, I’d have to put with loud music again, but I never heard a note.

More tomorrow

What does the hallway floor say on it? lol I can't make it out.
Wow. Cromwell sounds great, but like all Caesers properties you wonder how long before they start cutting back on the service, maybe since its smaller they will keep it going like it is. Great report as always!
Thanks JMan for the Day 43 report plus all of the nice photos!

And what are those sayings on the Shower door? I wonder why they are there?
