Summer of Tournaments – Day 46
Last night was a little on the rough side. There was a lot of racket on Flamingo Dr. and the sound coming from the disco/nightclub was reaching the room. I thought it was coming from the Paris, but Cindy is sure it was from the Drai Club upstairs. If that’s true, then though it was audible it wasn’t too bad considering our room was on the top floor directly under the club.
Finally, the morning started with breakfast downstairs. The breakfast is excellent but they have the same items every day. We went back up to the room to pack up as we’re going to the final hotel of this trip. I’ve been very happy with this room, but more impressed with the service of the entire hotel staff. The nightly turn down service was gourmet cookies, the next was a box of chocolates and the final night was a carton of cheese popcorn and a box of caramel corn. Everyone we encountered didn’t just say hello or good morning, it was followed by “Is there anything I can do for you?” or “I hope you’re having a good stay, can I get you any water?” However, there are some small things I didn’t care for. Next time, I’d gladly give up the view for northern facing room to get away from all the sounds of the traffic. The shower has a full length mirror against the back wall. Okay, I don’t care to watch myself shower, but Cindy discovered something this morning. From the bedroom, that mirror is actually a two-way glass-mirror. Though anyone in the bedroom can’t see you plainly, they can see the shadow of the person as they shower, very much like the shadow bar at Caesars. What is that about?

We packed up and headed downstairs to pick up the car. The plan for Cindy to spend the day with her daughter and her boyfriend, and I was going to pick up Terry and we’d hang out for the day. Terry had spent the night at the Four Queens and took the bus back to the Mirage this morning where we picked up. After dropping Cindy off at the Flamingo, we headed for the Town Center Shopping Center because I wanted to grab some pictures of the new Game Works that had opened this past Thursday. We parked in the garage and walked to Game Works, which is beneath the AMC theaters only to find that it didn’t open for another half hour. Terry hadn’t eaten yet, so we drove back downtown to the Four Queens at Magnolias as he has food comps there. He had waffles and strawberries and I had a couple crab cakes (surprisingly good). We did gamble a little. We each put $60 in the 10/7 Double Bonus Progressive (currently over $1300). Terry won—I lost. We then went to the Fremont to play $60 in the Pick ‘em machines. We both lost—what a summer I’m having!
Terry had never been to old Henderson and is it’s on a list of possible retirement moves (and there are many), I thought it would be good for him to check it out and visit the casinos there. Everything was pretty much the same as it always has been the many times I have visited except that the Eldorado opened a new Mexican restaurant, which oddly enough is only open two days a week. We just walked through them except for a brief $20 in a deuces wild nickel machine in the Eldorado.

The Eldorado today. It’s 105 and hot.

The small Rainbow casino we found does have 9/6 Jacks and 8/5 Bonus

The Emerald Island hotel. It calls itself “The all penny casino” because every machine in the joint is a penny machine.
We drove around the town a little, and I think Terry might have decided to take Henderson off this list. We drove to the Rio to check in and were given a nice room on the 17th floor. Cindy was dropped off and had said she spent the day at Mandalay Bay she, Danielle, and Robert had gone to the Aquarium there using MYVegas vouchers. She mentioned that there was a two hour long line to get into the place. Who’d of thought it continues to be so popular after all these years.
Terry and I headed downstairs to check out the National Star Trek Convention, which now takes place at the Rio. It was everything you’d expect. Many people dressed as different characters. The coolest part was the convention area where all the merchandise and memorabilia are sold. Along with all the paintings, comic books and costumes, were many of the actors from a lot of the shows that were signing autographs. These weren’t the main characters and most had pictures of the behind them as the characters they played and the specific episodes they were in. We couldn't go into the convention rooms where the panels were taking place. This year both Captain Kirk and Picard, and Captain Janeway were all in attendance. We needed a pass to get in.

I took Terry back to downtown and dropped him off where he will again meet up with David for dinner and gambling. I headed back to the Rio where Cindy and I had dinner at the All American Grill. It was very good but not in my top 5 hamburgers.

The Rio doesn’t often leave a welcome gift, but this day they did
A couple of movies on TV ended the day. I should mention that this offer came with a Samsung Tablet, which they are going to mail to my home in six to eight weeks.
