Summer of Tournaments - Day 7

Summer of Tournaments – Day 7

There isn’t a tournament today that’s scheduled, so I thought I’d drive down to Sam’s Town to play in their 10AM poker tournament. It only costs $23 and they tend to have a good turnout with mix of regulars and tourists. Today we started with five tables of 10 players. The first two sessions are limit poker and then a ten minute break and then play no limit until the top three winners are left. I didn’t make it to the break. As a matter fact, I didn’t win even one hand. I was dealt pocket queens and an Ace came on the flop and I lost. Later I was dealt pocket Kings, and again an Ace on flop made me another loser. Five minutes before the break, I was out of the tournament.

I headed over to the theaters where they were showing BELLE, an independent movie that got some pretty good reviews. It was a really good movie and I highly recommend it. I then played some 9/6 Jacks and won $100. Of course, quad Aces came today while playing Jacks or Better. I had to laugh. I ran into Larry and Debbie from the Joliet meet there. Larry also cashed at the VP tournament for a couple hundred. They were here to make 200 points which qualifies for a chocolate cream pie. I made that playing Jacks so I swiped my card and picked up my pie.

The rest of the afternoon I spent with my step-sister who lives in Kingman, AZ, but also rents an apartment in Vegas. I gave her the pie and we had a really nice visit. I headed back to the Orleans for dinner, which was the clam chowder at their oyster bar. I really like the Oyster Bar here, but I have to admit, their Manhattan clam chowder was bland. It didn’t have many oysters, and it really needed some spice.

Clam chowder at the Orleans…looks better than it is…

I decided not to play much today and to be happy with the $100 win at Sam’s, which it just so happens I’ll be staying for the next couple of nights. I called it a night and headed to my room. Some of these days, there simply won’t be all that much to report. This was one of those days.

I happen to have an Ultimate Poker account with the Stations Casinos where I can play online poker as long as I’m in Nevada. The sight is well done; but because it’s only good in Nevada, it’s hard to get any games because so few people are playing at any particular time. I’m sure as other states pass legal online poker, things will pick up. I did play a $5 sit-and-go this morning and lost, but I don’t think I’m going to put these tournaments in my totals. I think it’s better to stick to the casino tournaments.

More tomorrow.

So, were you a winner in the Palace Station tourney?

Why would you expect oysters in a bowl of clam chowder ?
Oops! Classic screw up. I meant to say few clams in the dish...not oysters...that's what happens when I type late at night on very little sleep.

Nice catch!

Thanks again for the report. The seafood bar at Palace station is always crowded, often with many people waiting, while the seafood place at the Orleans never did very well. It shocks me that Palace station does not move it to a location where more people can be served. I have never eaten there, as I do not like sitting at a bar type of restaurant, I am very short and it's a challenge to climb up those bar stools!!
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy these reports. My wife and I are headed to Vegas for 13 nights in a week and a half and I look forward to these daily updates.

Do you play poker tournaments at the Orleans? A bit of a crap shoot structure but fun with nice fields. We will probably hit a couple at the Golden Nugget during the Grand series.
Thanks for the report as well as the photos, JMan!

I do want to make sure that you know that this website has an extensive list of Daily (or at least Weekly) tournaments that are happening in LV for all kinds of games (some you may need to qualify for by possibly earning a certain number of points). So check into that as well (if you haven't already).

That information is available through the "Tournaments" link which you get to through the "Gambling Advisor" link near the top of this page of the website. Now once you are in there, for the game to play, you can select "All" and then select "Mini" ("Recurring"). Otherwise, you can specifically check: Blackjack; Poker; Slots; Video Poker or Other.
