Tahoe 7/24-27

Thursday left San Fernando Valley(Reseda) 5am easy drive up the 5, cut over to the 99, then to the 50. Stopped overnight at Folsom Hampton Inn so we just had a short drive the next morning to Harvey's Tahoe.
Also we spent some time at Red Hawk casino which is about 15 miles from the Hampton Inn.

Our only other time at Red Hawk was 3 or 4 years ago and the buffet was pretty good. The casino is very nice with lots of slots and video poker. They do not have a hotel and I don't know if they have any arrangement with hotels in the area as San Manuel does with their local Hampton Inn.

We were hungry after our drive and headed for the buffet. Price was $12.99 each which is very reasonable if the food was as good as it was our previous visit. It wasn't. They didn't have any shrimp, crab legs, etc. although I remember a small sushi section. I wasn't concerned about getting bad food that would make me ill and it didn't, but the quality level of the food and the presentation left me very disappointed. I won't go back.

We talked with a regular while we waited at the players club and she said they've cut back on staff and freeplay quite a bit this year. She said she thought they may not be doing well financially due to other Indian casinos that are reasonably close enough to take Red Hawk's players. We played a few slots and left up a couple bucks.

I had planned to go to the car wash on my way home from work Wednesday, but with 100 degree weather and my windshield very hot when I left work, I skipped the car wash so the windshield didn't crack. Big mistake as I didn't clean the inside of the windshield and going into shadowed areas from a sunny area made it extremely hard to see. I'd love to say we did the right thing and pulled over to clean the windshield inside and out, but we didn't. Luckily traffic on 50 was very light once we passed Placerville.

Arrived at Harvey's about 9am and our room was ready. Room 1125 tower side with a nice view of the lake. They've finally done something with that partially built construction area next to Harveys. They've built some shops they are calling "The Chateau at the Village" none are occupied as yet, but it looks so good now at least from hwy 50 side. The back still looks like a mess. This was the other view we had.

Harvey's have those new VP machines CET is installing in it's casinos. There was a progressive on quarters that was at $1,440 when we arrived, the next morning it was up to $1,600 and was getting a lot of action. Someone had hit that later that afternoon. The $1 progressive was at $4,600 when we arrived and the next morning was not much higher-these weren't getting that much action. I have to go back before we leave Monday morning to see if someone got that.

Now for my big progressive- Over by the Hard Rock store there's a bank of 8 Jacks or Better(only) nickel machines with a progressive. It was at $412 and my machine dealt me a very nice royal flush in hearts. Yes it was a 6/5 playtable, but this was a low budget trip and a +$400 was great.

Food section:
Montbleu remodeled their buffet last year, and the table areas were nice, I don't think they updated the area where you get your food it looked a little tired. I got a flyer for 2 free buffets and that made it an ok buffet, but it is a very small buffet. Food was ok, but I've been spoiled by the big LV buffets and Rincon's buffet.

Harvey's Diamond lounge Saturday 4pm- two soup choices, sliced turkey, ham, and beef for making sandwiches, salad greens, cubed cheeses, nice berry & melon fruit bowl, chips & pretzels. The elevator operator said they have a carving station on Saturdays except during July and August when Harvey's has the outdoor concerts.

Hard Rock Cafe at Harvey's: went in early afternoon when it wasn't busy and had a great meal with great service. On Saturday's & Sunday's they serve a limited breakfast menu starting at 9am. Tried it, for the price it could have been better.

Harrahs Diamond Lounge Sunday 4pm Very similar to Harvey's without the sliced meats. I wanted to go up the Harvey's to see if they were serving the sandwich items, but didn't get over there.

Montbleu Cafe del Soul from 1pm to 6pm they have 99 cent street tacos(beef, chicken, or carnitas your choice) and 99 cent margaritas. The tacos are really packed full of meat and pretty tasty. We ordered off the regular menu today as we had the tacos for lunch yesterday. I had the turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes/gravy, vegetables which was good. My husband had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes/gravy, vegetables which he liked. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner-I think it's 24 hours, but I may be incorrect on that. I haven't tried it, but they have a few $3.99 breakfasts choices available.

It's hard to picture that this hotel/casino was once Caesars.

Slot play:
Montbleu-lost some, won some overall lost $20

Lakeside: Tried the Jurassic park slot won about $15. They have one of those group train progressive slots with about 6 different progressive levels. I got to play a couple of times and got about $20 each time, but that was on freespins and I never could figure out why I never got to play for the progressive. I asked a staff member if she knew and she thought I would have had to play higher than minimum to be eligible for the progressive amounts.

I haven't seen this slot before, it's named. "Selextion" and has 10 different slot games you can play each one starting at 25 cent minimum. I kept switching between the games as I'd get an almost full screen of an item and make $12 to $40. I started with $20 and cashed out at $195. That was very nice.

Weather was great but alas I must return to the 90-100 degree temperatures at home.

Thanks for the report as well as for your gaming!

As for Hard Rock Cafe, I want to be sure that you are aware that if you are a member of the Auto Club (AAA), showing your card should get you a 10% discount (but double check with the Discounts section of the Auto Club website).

And nice going on your Progressive Jackpot win!

Enjoyed your report. Congratulations on your Royal Flush!

We flew to Harrah's Reno on a Charter deal which included a shuttle to and from Harrah's Lake Tahoe on Sunday the 27th for five hours. I think I had copied one of your posts about Harrah's/Harvey's eateries, etc. We thought we would try the Harrah's DL but didn't get there.

Amazingly I had previously been mailed some Tahoe stuff, and amazingly I hadn't thrown it away because it included a $200 free play coupon and $35 in food which covered a very good breakfast in the Rainforest Cafe for the three of us. We didn't get over to Harvey's since we were holding our own at Harrah's and time ran out. Husband and I even rode the gondola up Heavenly, and strolled around the village a while. They had some classic/restored/kit cars that were fun to look at. I guess that was in conjunction with Hot August Nights tuning up in Reno.

I used the $200 playing Bonus on a 3/play and managed to play a while on it, cashing out $100. That wasn't a win, obviously, but I was just happy to have not gone crazy and fed and the machine any of my cash. And I did well enough on an Ultimate X machine for a change, bailed out when I had a good enough win and it looked to be slowing down.

Anyway, thanks for your report!
