Cosmopolitan Las Vegas – November 23 – 28, 2011
Our flight to Vegas was an early one so we decided to spend the night before at the Sheraton Toronto Airport. This hotel is a part of the airport itself so the commute to our flight in the early morning consisted of a short monorail ride from the hotel to our terminal. Security was a breeze at 6:45am and we were soon having coffee at the gate waiting for our direct Air Canada flight to Las Vegas.
The flight was smooth with a different approach to LAS than what I have become accustomed to. We headed directly at the strip then made a sharp left hand turn
with a steep decent into the runway. It was a fun ride!
The thing I love about flying AC to Vegas, is that upon arrival there are never any taxi lines whatsoever at the terminal, and we were quickly on our way to Cosmo.
I told the driver no tunnel and she replied that she never goes that way because, “the strip is right there”. When I mentioned that some drivers seem to try to take that route she stated that, “most” drivers try to tunnel people and it makes her sick.
We were at the hotel in no time and after paying Heidi she gave us her number. We will use it in the future.
The hotel:
Check in was a breeze at 10:45am and we were soon in our room 5 floors from the top.

We spent the rest of our first day reacquainting ourselves with the Cosmopolitan and had an early night. Despite the fantastic view, I was a bit unhappy with the room. There were a few minor housekeeping issues, and the following morning when I noticed a front desk clerk was not busy, I decided to have a quiet word about my concerns. The front desk clerk was very accommodating and we were upgraded to another room.

The new suite was fantastic, with a separate bedroom, a dining area and a separate guest bathroom.
Food:
We had lunch Thanksgiving day at the Wicked Spoon Buffet and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was fresh and there was a wide variety to choose from. One evening we got a couple of pizza slices from the pizza place that is hidden down a hallway on the third floor, we were not impressed and found it to be extremely greasy. My wife had take out from China Poblano one evening and she said it was very good. We also tried the Holiday Brunch at the Monte Carlo buffet and we were not impressed.
Gambling:
I love traveling to Vegas over Thanksgiving because of all of the college and pro football available to bet on. There are two places where you can place your bets at The Cosmopolitan. The main sports book is located on the second floor, it’s a tiny little place with not much going on. On the first floor there is an area called The Book and Stage, it is a bar with a large screen and a stage where bands perform in the evening. There is a little counter hidden off to one side where you can place your bets. I think I broke even as far as the football went.
I had some pretty good luck at Cosmo playing double double bonus video poker at 25 cents with a $500 win a $200 win and a few smaller wins. I also had a $500 win and a $100 win playing deuces wild one afternoon downtown at the Plaza. I took pictures of all of my wins to post here but sadly my wife’s iphone was lost/stolen when we were in the Monte Carlo visiting friends. I have one picture I took on the last day, when we took my phone.
This was at Cosmo:

Quads were plentiful this trip but I cannot report a royal, sigh.
I did spend a couple of hours playing at Caesars with the usual terrible result. It was even more costly having quit after a short period of time in that my total rewards offers have now gone from comps to discounts.
Overall it was a fantastic trip with the only downer being the loss of my wife’s iphone. Luckily I won enough to buy her a new one for Christmas : )
The Cosmopolitan is our new Vegas home and I am hoping to receive some offers from them soon.
That’s all for now. Next trip is Super Bowl weekend.
Happy Holidays everyone.
