Okay...
And away we go again! For those of you new to this board, I'll let you know what this is all about and then explain to all what's in store for this summer's trip. I have been doing summer daily reports on this board now since the early 1990s. Most have been the usual Las Vegas experience variety, but the past few years, I've expanded to themes. "Summer of 55"; "Hit 'em All Nevada"; "National Casino Run" and so forth.
I really considered taking this summer off; however, many of you have been writing and prodding me to do something. So, I considered many ideas and have settled on a trip somewhat in the spirit of "Hit 'em All Nevada" where I placed a $10 table bet in every single casino in the state of Nevada (that turned out to be a fun trip). This year I'm going to attempt to "Hit 'em All California" this time around. HOWEVER, I'm not fully sure that I'll make it. I will give it my best shot.
There are approximately 63 American Indian casinos in the state; however, unlike Nevada where most of the casinos are grouped together, many of the California casinos are small, individual tribe buildings (and tents) on reservations that are more than 300 miles away. Am I prepared to drive for five or six hours in the desert to visit just one casino? I'm not sure at this point.
However, I promise that I will make every reasonable attempt to do it with a couple of detours that will take me to Laughlin, Las Vegas, and Reno in order to meet family and friends and to take advantage of offers that are too good to pass up.
An LVA member has suggested that I ask any members out there that live close to a California casino that if they happen to have any free room offers available that I might be able to use in order to keep expenses down. So, if you are able to do so, that would really help me out. Please PM me and I'll be sure to get in touch.
When I start this is still a bit up in the air as though I am retired, I still sub at my school; however, my target dates will be the third week of June.
I've got my California map, my web sites of most the casinos. Now to coordinate the travel pattern. Having driven over 11,500 miles on the National Casino Run, this drive doesn't intimidate me. It's mostly the time factor, and the challenge to make the daily reports interesting and not so repetitive.
More later...
