This Summer's Trip

Okay...

And away we go again! For those of you new to this board, I'll let you know what this is all about and then explain to all what's in store for this summer's trip. I have been doing summer daily reports on this board now since the early 1990s. Most have been the usual Las Vegas experience variety, but the past few years, I've expanded to themes. "Summer of 55"; "Hit 'em All Nevada"; "National Casino Run" and so forth.

I really considered taking this summer off; however, many of you have been writing and prodding me to do something. So, I considered many ideas and have settled on a trip somewhat in the spirit of "Hit 'em All Nevada" where I placed a $10 table bet in every single casino in the state of Nevada (that turned out to be a fun trip). This year I'm going to attempt to "Hit 'em All California" this time around. HOWEVER, I'm not fully sure that I'll make it. I will give it my best shot.

There are approximately 63 American Indian casinos in the state; however, unlike Nevada where most of the casinos are grouped together, many of the California casinos are small, individual tribe buildings (and tents) on reservations that are more than 300 miles away. Am I prepared to drive for five or six hours in the desert to visit just one casino? I'm not sure at this point.

However, I promise that I will make every reasonable attempt to do it with a couple of detours that will take me to Laughlin, Las Vegas, and Reno in order to meet family and friends and to take advantage of offers that are too good to pass up.

An LVA member has suggested that I ask any members out there that live close to a California casino that if they happen to have any free room offers available that I might be able to use in order to keep expenses down. So, if you are able to do so, that would really help me out. Please PM me and I'll be sure to get in touch.

When I start this is still a bit up in the air as though I am retired, I still sub at my school; however, my target dates will be the third week of June.

I've got my California map, my web sites of most the casinos. Now to coordinate the travel pattern. Having driven over 11,500 miles on the National Casino Run, this drive doesn't intimidate me. It's mostly the time factor, and the challenge to make the daily reports interesting and not so repetitive.

More later...

I can't offer you any help with CA. However, I am so glad to see you doing this. I travel and write TR's but I am never able to do it as well as you. I envy the skill you have.

Many of us truly look forward and appreciate the daily posts you write and appreciate the effort it takes so thanks in advance.
Jon,

I'm sorry I'm not out West to help you on this odyssey but if/when you wish to undertake travel in Florida just let me know.

Have fun this summer and know many of us will be waiting with bated breath your reports and observations.

Leonard
JMan,

I don't have any room offers to CA casinos, so sorry about that but I can tell you that there are some Freeplay offers at least at some casinos for New Members including at Soboba, Morongo, Fantasy Springs, Agua Caliente/Spa (where at one or the other casino you can use the www.slotplaycoupons.com deal for $50 in Freeplay for $25 for new members) and Chumash Casino.

I do know that with the Chumash and Fantasy Springs Casinos, you have to go twice to get the full value out of the Freeplay.

Enjoy, and know that the Southern California Gaming Guide website has some good information about the Southern California Casinos (including Shuttle information).

And since you are in the San Diego area where there are several casinos around (including Barona [who last year had a coupon in the LVA MRB], Sycuan, Valley View as well as Harrah's Rincon), are you going to start there or end there?

I so look forward to your reports every year. I am thrilled to hear that there will be a new batch to watch for!!
Jon,

Best of luck on this trip.....I think I speak for everyone who reads your reports when I say that your reports are never boring or lacking in variety. You have the ability to make even your morning juice and vitamins sound fascinating.

Cheers,
Deanna
Your reports make me anticipate my own trips even more.
As if your daily reports could ever be anything but interesting. Venture forth, JMan - there's gold in them thar hills! Looking forward to every word (and picture).
Can't wait!
Wonderful-

A summer without Jon's trip reports would be like a spring without daffodils.

We look forward to them and appreciate your doing this.
