Tuesday May 10th
We met up with Ron and Lil over at Harrah’s for Breakfast at the buffet (used some coupons and a BOGO) to make it very reasonably priced. Visited some and they were on their way north headed home.
Harry and I played a bit and lost, headed over to the Flamingo and then turned in our coupons for ‘reel rewards’ free play. My ten dollars netted four aces on ddb at the Casino Bar (woohoo!) and Harry lost his. We walked over to Bally’s where I headed back to the video poker area and hit another quarter 4OK on aces again. Never hit the kickers but it was still profitable. Harry’s session wasn’t too profitable for him so we just went upstairs to the room to chill out and soak in the Jacuzzi tub.
No real plans for the evening except to head to the Sahara to pick up some casino chips. Why the Sahara would only sell us two dollar chips at the cage and not one dollar chips, beats me? We thought about playing to get the actual dollar chips but were a little torqued off at having to do so to get the chips. I guess I’m not so sad to see the casino go, just for the people that are losing jobs. I’ve never been a big fan here for various reasons and this just sums up my opinion.
Anyhow, with no real plans, I mention heading to the Hilton for a few different reasons; never been there, heard good things about their vp, and the sports book. Well it was a good stop. We signed up for player’s cards and then headed into the sports book. Wow. What a sports book. We had placed a bet on the Indian’s game for Harry’s mom so he headed to the sports book to watch (the game was on a rain delay so it worked out for us on the time difference) By the way, she won the bet!
I found some good video poker and Tuesday was a multiplier (I think 5xs on vp and 10x on slots) It was over by one of the bars close to the sports book area and I was playing 9/6 ddb. Harry came and sat by close and started playing too, then I moved and noticed the same machine next to it was 8/5 ddb. Ouch. Now I knew to keep my eyes peeled. This was a specific reason why I wanted to check it out here. Plus the casino was relaxing, we liked it. Harry went on his way and I see him playing on a penny reel ‘em in machine. I move and look at the progressive $vp and the Royal is at over $5200. I had to look twice. Had to play it also, but I just donated. I go to see what Harry is doing and he caught a bonus for $500. Nice. He goes to cash out, and I tell him about the royal and we both go over and play a few and the next thing we know, he hits for four aces for $800. He has had a severe dry spell since we got here on video poker (he really only dabbles at vp, he likes slots and craps) I am the absolute opposite, 95% vp and 5% everything else. This is a good way to leave the Hilton and leaves a good impression. I really wouldn’t mind staying a night here, it had a good vibe.
Head back to the Paris and park the car. We are not much into night driving around Vegas. Head out into the casino, go to the bar to get a drink and Harry to craps, he has a profitable session and then meets me at the bar where he proceeds to have an unbelievable run on video poker at Gustav’s Bar. By the time he is done he is cashing out over $1000 from just hitting 4OKs on one machine! We both walk over to Bally’s play for a couple of hours more. Nothing to write home about, basically won some, lost some, more in the losing category. We headed to bed @2am.
Wed May 11th
Up early. The last full day in Vegas and we have to soak everything out of it we can. We order room service coffee. Harry wants me to pick where we are going since he is really liking my last couple of picks!! I say the Orleans. I want to play the coupons (2 $10 free plays) and 2 matchplays and possibly lunch.
It’s a beautiful day in the low 80s. What an improvement from the last two days. Our goal is to do the pool this afternoon so we need to try and stay on track with time. Get our cards and loaded play. I hit a 4OK in the first few minutes of play and then hit a $100 bonus on Goldfish slots. I really like these penny slots. We meet up, Harry hasn’t hit anything so we decide to do the buffet. Use the BOGO out of the LVA and our points and lunch costs us $1.87 for two. Food was decent the price was great. Getting ready to head out and I remind Harry about the matchplay coupons. Thought about blowing it off and saving for next time, but we find a $10 blackjack table that no one is on, Harry and I both buy in for the coupon. We each use one and then we both win. Instead of picking up and going, we go through two shuffles (I think it was 3 or 4 decks) and end up netting $80 between the two of us. It was fun and we each hit a couple of black jacks, double downs, lost some and generally had a good time plus we came out ahead. Not bad.
We decide that we are going to do one more stop and I pick Binion’s downtown. We’ve both had decent luck and the parking is fairly easy. I start playing Multi strike for quarters and net a hundred. I mill about looking for Harry who has found a penny machine (go figure??) and I sit down next to him. It was called Double Diablo. I chuckle at the name of the machine and start playing mine. In the next minute or so, he grabs my arm and says “I got all five”. I’m confused at what he’s talking about until I look over and I see this:

I was thinking it was like a $500 dollar win or something (I never know what I am looking for on penny machines) I KNOW what an A-K-Q-J-10 equal but the multi reel slots keep me guessing. So we sat there for I kid you not, 15 minutes and no one came. I go to find someone and finally I do. Apparently the slot machine did not register a win wherever it is supposed to so security and a manager show up. Another half hour later and they are counting out the hundreds. We were both nervous walking around with that kind of money. Security (he offered/we were going to ask) actually walked us to our car (we debated on a check but it had already taken so long) Binion’s parking garage is easy to get to but with a large amount of money I did not feel secure. In the car and back to the safe! This is the largest win either of us have ever had and it’s the last day which is even better.
We head to the pool, have a couple of drinks, soak up the sun and relax. It’s been an exciting morning.
Our next event is to head over to Caesar’s and pick up our tickets to Absinthe. Our host actually arranged these for us which I think cut the ticket master charge out. There was tax on the tickets but not the service fee. We had opted for the VIP tickets which we were happy with. It included the free drink ($14) and then first seating. All seating is open, we ended up in the front row with the table in front of us used for props. Which sitting up front could be slightly dangerous if any of the gymnastics/athletes lost control? We both REALLY enjoyed this show. I personally rate this up there in the top three shows we’ve ever seen. The offbeat humor was great, the talent was truly amazing, the show was slightly risqué and the venue was perfect. No matter what seat you would get they were all great. It was a packed show. The show really is indescribable. But, if you are offended easily by colorful four letter words and humor, by pass it. I’m glad Harry had suggested this show. For us, definitely worth it.
We head over to the Flamingo for a bit after the show, not really winning anything, have a late dinner in the new food court. The Flamingo needed something for dining. Nothing to write home about but it filled the void. Walked back to the Paris and played some in the dollar video poker progressive uprights in the middle of the casino hoping to catch a break. Did play for over an hour before heading to bed.
Up at 5 and out the door by 6am. We had an 8:30am flight and had to drop the car etc. Check out was easy, We did not have enough points to cover all the charges yet everything was taken off except the spa products that I bought. Don’t know how that happened, but not arguing about it. Flight uneventful, we both actually slept almost the whole way home. Nothing like Vegas burnout to get a good four hour nap!
It was a good trip and a profitable one. We might just get to take that summer weekend in Vegas afterall!
Thanks for making it to the end. Hopefully some parts were helpful to others also. Thanks for all the tips from folks who have previously posted.
