Trip Itinerary Las Vegas 5 Nights Solo December 2013
T-7 days and counting:

This will be my second trip to Vegas this year. Unlike the more upscale trip in October with my wife, this one will be solo and low budget. I’ll be leaving next Thursday morning from Boston via JetBlue direct for six-days (booked based upon a one-day-only 20%-off sale, saving $80).

Have Dollar Express and renting a compact car using Dollar City Special. I then saved an additional saved $40 ($139 versus $99) by booking separate reservations of four days and then two days rather than one six day reservation (go figure). After getting the rental car, I’ll probably do lunch at Silver Sevens Café or Ellis Island (at which I have 50% off coupons from American Casino Guide (ACG 2013 and 2014) and then will check-in to Circus Circus (CC) for the first 3 nights. I got a free comp offer (that I couldn’t refuse) for a room in the alleged newly-renovated, Casino Tower for two free WEEKEND nights including the resort fee comped as well. So my total cost for three nights starting Thursday and checking out Sunday will be $24 plus one $10 resort fee. I’m not planning on eating at the CC Buffet, but will likely eat at the CC Steakhouse one night using CC comp points.

The 4th and 5th weekday nights will be at the Orleans on a BOGO B-Connected deal at a total cost of $24 for the two nights (average cost of $12 per night) plus resort fee.

Entertainment

For entertainment, I’m also planning to go low budget and see Franky Perez at GVR free on Thursday night; Michael Cetera (Peter’s brother) with the Chicago Experience at the Cannery ($5.00 Cover) on Friday night (where I also plan to get FSP for Player’s Club signup and do their Wincard deal); Saturday night plan to see Jan Rouven, Illusionist at the Riviera on a Travelzoo 67% off deal ($22 all in); on Sunday Antony Cools (if available at tix4tonite) or if not, the Comedy Show at the Riviera (free ACG coupon). On Monday I have a free/comp Goldstar voucher ($10.00 service fee only) for the Legends Show.

During the afternoons might check out the Pinball Hall of Fame, the Quad Auto Collection (free admission coupon), and/or check out the Neon Museum and Bellagio conservatory. I also might splurge and shoot some machine guns at BattleField Vegas.

Gambling

As usual, I have matchplays and freeplays (MPs and FPs) from ACG, LVA MRB, and other sources. My most extensive coupon run will be near strip consisting of Orleans, Palms, Gold Coast, Riviera, Tuscany, Hard Rock, and Ellis Island, and maybe will include a Wincard at Mandalay Bay and FSP at the Alamo Casino (further south near the Silverton). At some point, I’ll also do a downtown MP/FP mini coupon/FSP run including Las Vegas Club, Plaza, DT Grand, and ElCo (other coupons and opportunities are already used this year from my previous trip).

Besides coupon runs, I plan to spend significant time playing 50c Aces and Eights video poker (VP) progressives that potentially pay 100.25%+ (at long run perfect play) at Circus Circus. The + is for the added progressive returns. I also plan to play $0.25 FPDW VP and $0.50 to $1.00 Loose Deuces Wild VP at GVR, $0.25 FPDW VP at the Palms, and $0.25 Pick-A-Pair aka Pick’Em VP at the Fremont.

Food

Will possibly use ACG/LVA MRB 50% off buffet coupons at the Silverton, and/or Rampart buffet (ACG 2014); ACG 2014 $10 off Grand Café coupons at RR and GVR; 50% off Silver Sevens Café (2014 ACG); 2013 ACG Ellis Island 50% off; and a $10 off Maggiano’s coupon received via email. I also plan to use CC Player’s Club points at the CC Steakhouse and may use a $5 off online Destination coupons at the Palms 24/7 Café.

But only some of this is written in stone.

Will send a trip report upon return.

Thanks for the "pre" report.lol.Looking forward to your experience at the C.C. steakhouse.Have not been in a while, but have had some terrific steaks there.
Any trip playing full pay video poker is a good plan.
Let us know how the rooms are at CC...Ive heard the new tower is actually very nice. You might want to check out reviews of the Rampart buffet on Yelp before making the trek out there...they are not very flattering.

500 same day points at the Rampart gets you steak or lobster in the very nice Carmel room. I believe you get to keep the points. It is relatively easy to hit that total on the 10 play machines. I play dimes on them but you could go nickels to even out the variance.

According to their menu it's a $49 item. So it seems like a good play. The point requirement, however, is 1,000 points (not 500) and it takes $2.00 coin in to earn a point on VP and it appears you don't get to keep your points.

Still, if you were to play 10c 10 play at $5.00 per hand running through $2,000 you would have to play 400 hands, which would be much less than an hours work. For me the only good game there that I know cold is the 9/6 JoB. So if I were to value the meal at only $20, $20/$2,000 = 1% and add 1% to the basic EV of 99.50% that would give a return of 100.50% even if you only attached $20 value to the meal.

So despite the 1,000 point hurdle (not 500) it still sound like a reasonably good play. In addition, the Carmel Room appears to be held in much higher regard than the Rampart buffet.

Thanks,

ST
Sounds good to me! Since you'll be staying at CC, don't forget to do both of the Win Cards there plus the Win Cards at Riviera.

And as for shooting the guns, there are usually discount coupons for that in the Freebie LV Magazines that you should be able to find around town.

I haven't been to the Rampart in a while so they could easily have increased the point requirement. Those 10 plays have NSUD and I think some bonus game that is 99.8 or 99.9 so the theoretical loss is even slimmer than JOB. To the best of my knowledge, this is the easiest "fine dining" comp in the city. My wife and I did it two nights in a row last summer so it's safe to assume it is good.
I love the Silverton Bellini Brunch on the weekends, so I would use the coup then if you can. Of course, you'd have to stay and play for a bit, since you have to wait for the champagne to wear off! And you can see Santa in the aquarium.
