Trip with noobs Aug 29th to sept. 2nd Lots of first

I am writing this in a bit of a rush so the grammar will suck. lol No time to proofread.

This trip my wife and I are taking a couple that have never flown, much less been to Vegas before. I bough LVA for the trip and had some my vegas rewards. We split all the meal cost so we all paid together so the other couple would get some of the benefits of the coupons.

Saturday Aug 29th.

We left RDU (Raleigh-durham airport) at 7:15am. We had to fly to LA first. You have to love air travel. Fly past where you want to go to get where you want to go. Anyways ended up landing in Vegas on time about 12:25 pm. Took the shuttle to the rent a car center. (never rented a car in vegas before) We got a full size are at Hertz via price line. Paid $138 total. Has some issues at first with the person checking me in. After about 20 mins I finally had a full size car for the price I got via priceline. We headed to luxor to check in. We are only staying there one night. We had two rooms in the pyramid. Nothing special, but would do for the night. Had 2 free passes to the luxor buffet (myvegas rewards). It was brunch and was pretty good. Might have seemed better since we had not had much to each all day. At this point the couples split up. We had Daniel tosh tickets and the other couple did not want to see him. We took a nap then got ready to see Tosh. He put on a great show and was really funny. We met back up with the other couple after the show. The wives each played a slot machine for a few mins. Each of them lost $20. I was too tired to show them table games and did not want to think.

Sunday Aug. 30

We got up and was ready to check out about 8 am. The plan today was Skywalk at the grand canyon and Hoover dam. As we headed out we stopped by the coffee cup in Boulder City. This place was soooo good. I had the downtown omelette. Everyone enjoyed this place. We got to Skywalk about 11am. It is breathtaking. The views all around are unbelievable. We really enjoyed it. My wife and I are really afraid of heights, so it took a lot for us to go out there. Its really something to be that high up on something you can feel shaking! It is only about 2.5 hour drive from vegas to skywalk. I would recommend this to everyone. On the way back we drove over the Hoover damn. Stopped took a few pictures then headed back to Vegas. We got back to Mandalay back to check in about 5pm. We had a 2 bedroom suite for the rest of the stay. After checking in we headed over to MGM grand. We had 2 free buffets and a 2 for 1 buffet (myvegas). It was really good and I could have stayed and had dessert all night long! We checked out NY NY on the way back then headed back to Mandalay bay. We walked around and let them play a few slot machines. At this point in the trip everyone besides the Gambler (me) had gambled. I had to change that. Stopped by a craps table and laid down a $100. Played for a few mins while my friend watched. After watching me for about 15 mins and him asking questions. He joined in and played too. We played for about an hour before we lost the money. It was about 1130 pm so we called it a night.

Monday Aug. 31st

We got up about 8 am. The goal today was checking out the strip. We walked from MB to Monte carlo. We then took the tram from Monte Carlo to Bellagio. On the way to the tram I saw the deal or no deal game at the monte carlo. Made a note to play that on the way back. We made it to our breakfast destination at about 915. Serendipity 3 at Caesars Palace. I love this place! Everyone was in awe of the amount of food you get. We left barely able to walk. We walked through all the hotels up the stip to TI. We then crossed over to the Venetian and started heading back down the stip. We made it to Cromwell before crossing back over to the Bellagio and heading back to our room. We did not continue because we had to be back to Excalibur before 4 pm to pick up our tournament of kings tickets. Stopped at the Deal or no deal machine at Monte carlo to play. Put in a $100 and it took about $50 of it before I got to play the bonus. We played for about 45 mins. The final time we played I had 2 cases left one for $1 and the other for $105. My wife said no deal and to stick with our case. Well she was right our case had the $105! Ended up cashing out up $128. Stopped at Excalibur and got our tournament of kings tickets. 2 2for1s (myvegas). Went back to relax and shower up before the show. Tournament of kings was good. The couple next to us left with out paying for their drinks they ordered. After the show played $5 bj for about 15 mins. The table was not very talkative neither was the dealer. I was even so I left. We went back to MB to play for a bit. My wife lost about $40 playing slots. I played some VP and won about $20. After that back to the craps table. My friend and I put down a $100. They said the table was hot and boy were they right. After about 45 mins we were both up about $150. It was getting late so we called it a night.

Tuesday Sept 1st

We were up and out of the room around 830 am. We went to PH for the breakfast buffet. (2-1 LVA) It was ok, it was the worse meal we had out there, but most of the meals were awesome. We finished up the stip tour looking at Ballys and Paris. We also went up in the eiffel tower to look around. I always love the view from up there. It was about 1 pm so we headed back to MB to get ready for our "fancy" night out. We stopped back by the deal or no deal machine. It was brutal. I think there were 4 times were we had a big decision. Each time we guessed wrong. Lost about $160. We went to dinner at n9ne Steakhouse. They have a pre fix meal we wanted to do. Here is the deal. It is $59 a person. Everyone at the table has to agree to do the deal. It is 4 courses. Soup and salad, entree and dessert. Also comes with 2 glasses of wine. You have a choice between a red and white wine. (side note if you do the pre fix menu you cant use the 50% off lva coupon) I was worried the portions would be really small and not be a good value. Boy was I wrong!!! I got the garbage salad with onion soup. My wife got the Cesar salad with lobster bisque. We swapped soups since we each liked the other soup. The entree I got a 10 oz ribeye and my wife got the salmon. The meal also came with mashed potatoes and asparagus you share. The desert was a chocolate mousse cake and orange sherbet. It was a great meal and an awesome value. We would recommend this to everyone. After that we saw Peen and teller at Rio. Their show was great as always.

Wed. Sept. 2nd.

Our last day. We slept in since we had a long day ahead of us. We left the hotel at 1045 am and checked out. We headed back to boulder to visit the Coffee cup cafe again. (it was that good) This time we had lunch there. OMG if you have not been here seriously what are you waiting for? I had the Dakota burger and my wife had a chili dog. Both were amazing. After that took my friends to the Harley Davidson shop. They are harley lovers. We stopped at the shop on the south end of the stop near the welcome to Vegas sign. After that we headed to downtown to check it out. After touring downtown we stopped at binons to gamble a bit. Played some bj and again the dealers were not very interactive. Got up $50 and cashed out. Headed over and showed my wife how to play craps. We played for about an hour and cashed out even at $50. We headed over to the mirage for dinner then the bellagio fountains before heading to the airport.

Thanks for the info, Good Report
Very nice! Thanks for the report and good going on showing the Newbies around. El Cortez has some very decent Single Deck Blackjack as long as you don't make the Royal Match bet!

Enjoyed your trip report. We have not been to the Skywalk, and would like a little more info. Are you allowed to take cameras out on the skywalk? I remember reading when they first opened supposably no cameras allowed. How much time would you recommend on visiting at the skywalk? Thanks! Darcie

Very nice and informative report! Hadn't heard much about the Skywalk so that was helpful.

And the report on n9ne restaurant also...must try it.

Lots of good info in a concise and enjoyable report. Nice of you to take your newby friends.

There are no cameras allowed on the actual skywalk part. Before you go out you have to put everything in a locker that is free. They do have their people there that will take several pictures for you. At the end you can get all the photos for about $65 emailed to you so you can do what ever you please with them after that. They also have other picture packages. You are free to take pictures at all other areas of the site just not on the skywalk itself.

Time wise just depends on how much you want to take in. We were there for about 4 hours. It cost about $80 per person. This includes a shuttle bus to all 3 stops, entry to the skywalk, and lunch. The lunch was pretty good. We ate at the last stop. You got a drink, salad, bbq pork or chicken, mashed potatoes, veggie and a cookie. They also have other things you can do there. Horeseback ride, rafting down the river, and helicopter rides.

You gotta be kidding- $65 for e-mailed photos and $80 per person to go stand on a glass platform - asinine.
You say you had breakfast buffet at PH with LVA 2-1. I don't see LVA 2-1. You say meal was only O.K. I have not had breakfast buffet but I have had lunch & dinner buffet and my wife & I rate it great.

You are right it is not a 2 for 1. It is a $10 off 2 buffets. Breakfast is 18.99 per person so I was thinking it was a 2 for 1 since it ended up that way in terms of cost.
It is more than just standing on a glass platform. There are 3 different areas you can visit. Each has its own unique view and offerings.
