Vegas Vacation #2

I had written part two a week ago and the internet at IP ate it. So I am going to do this by memory and boy what a week it has been. We had been playing and hitting right along, I had hit the 4200 quarters at Harrahs the first night and Rick had been hitting every day since that first night. He hit $700 a couple times along with some smaller jackpots. For me, the first night was the hit of the vacation to this point.

We traveled to Mesquite on Sunday. Wanting to check out the area we decided to travel further into Utah. Well, we went thru the mountain pass got off at the first exit and went back. Holy Smokes, talk about breathtaking.

On Tuesday, the 24th, Rick woke up and sid he just didn't feel right. We hung out and drove down to Fremont St, Rick wanted to eat at Heart Attack Grill Well, I made a comment about eating there and having a heart attack..what a statement. The restaurant is nice, the owner was there and greeted us putting on our hospital gowns. The burgers and fries were very good but oh so bad for you..

We were working our way back down the strip and stopped to play at Binions. Rick got a machine that gave him 78 free spins. On the way walking he was telling me that his jaw was hurting and that he didn't understand it. As he was at Binions watching the free spins, his jaw began to hurt worse and it was almost unbearable. I checked with security where an urgent care was and after his spins he decided we needed to find one. Well the first one was closed. UMC emergency had about 100 people in there waiting. So, off I go trying to find another hospital, he didn't want an ambulance so I am trying to find a hospital amid his pain and being scared to death.

We find Desert Springs on Flamingo. There was no one in the waiting room and when I went in and told them what was going on they insisted he come in and they immediately started checking for heart attack. His blood pressure was off the charts, in pain and they could not figure it out. He kept wanting water to rinse his mouth and told them it could have been a tooth. They didn't think so. After a cat scan of the neck they decided that it was sinusitis. We got released about 3-4 am. We were going to check out of the hotel and go to Laughlin. I asked for a later check out so we could get some rest as Rick was exhausted and still in some pain.

I called my sister to tell her what happened. She insisted we check out and head directly to Phoenix. Rick was sleeping, I needed to get meds and when he woke up I packed us up and we checked out. Ket me tell you I drove when we first started coming out here but Rick started after a couple years and I have just not needed to. The last few hours had been enough for me and I just wanted to get someplace with family incase Rick had to go back to the hospital. I drove and let me tell you that I was not happy driving over the dam bridge and some of the road between Kingman and Wickenburg. When we hit Wickenburg, it was dark and had been for sometime. I was exhausted so Rick said he felt well enough to drive the rest of the way. I was so happy to get there and I think Rick was too, he wouldn't admit it but he was scared as shit at the er.

That nght Rick said he thought it was his tooth and could we find a dentist. Bless my sisters heart she found a dentist and we got there asap first thing in the morning. Well, they said he had an infected tooth but they could not take it out because of his blood pressure. They said we needed to go to an oral surgeon. We got in the one they recommended and what do you know it was his tooth. Just as soon as his tooth was gone he was fine. No more pain and no more problems.

We are at mys sisters and we just fell in love with the area she lives in. We went to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and casinos all over. We won/lost and won again. Saturday we head to Laughlin and then back to Vegas for a couple days before heading home.

Reports like this help keep things in proper perspective. As much as we all love our Vegas, there are things that come before it.
While it sounds so unnerving to be away from home with an escalating medical concern, thankfully it got resolved.

Good luck to both of you,

Paul and Sonya from Iowa
Thank you for the update! Sorry to read about Rick's dental problem and his feeling bad and I wish you both a continued good trip!
