WinStar offered an "invited guest" Mother's Day lunch and "quality jewler" gift. So off we went. Left the Fort Worth area at 10AM. Arrived at 11AM. Saw the usual Northlake (near Keller,North of Fort Worth near the NASCAR track) speedtrap and the mile marker 473 motorcycle speedtraps. I'll bet Northlake is on the list of the Nation's top ten revenue generators.
Laura played "her" Eagle Rock "fishys" machine. After an hour I thought we should get in line to the Lunch. First you got to the "Box Office" to register. We did so and met Kurt a host. You receive a blue arm band with "2" maked on it. We got in the Looooong line to enter the "event center".
An hour later, I stayed on line while Laura found another Eagle Rock machine on the way in to the event center. We entered the event center and were seated by the staff. It was white table cloth with waiters. We found the serving lines to be a buffet.
We started on the very large shrimp as it had the shortest lines. They were good. I wonder if they were Gulf of Mexico shrimp? The carved prime rib ran out as I got to the carving station. They substituted leg of lamb. Just past that was racks of beef rib.
Lots of vegatables, desert was good. I had cheesecake of course. They also had chocolate covered things (rasberry I think), cobbler (peach?) and four other deserts.
Laura broke for the gift line as I ate desert. She noted that the gift line was the shortest she had seen it since we started lunch. It took about 5 minutes for her to get her Tiffany bowel (small). When we registered she got a nice corsage to wear (as did everyone else).
Notes on the lunch.
1) I think that anyone who had played slots was qualified a Mother's Day attendee.
2) The event staff was not fully prepared for such a large turout.
3) The staff had difficulty keeping the food filled up. There appeared to be many "temporary hires" helping. They were doing the best they could with the volume of people attending.
4) The food/event management needed to be better.
5) The food quality was excellent. Probably better than the regular buffet.
6)The entry line needs to be better planned as it was too long to stand in line an hour. Next time I would have Laura claim her gift without waiting in the food line. We would have paid for lunch rather than wait in an hour line.
7) The wait staff was overwelmed. We got our first drink quickly but the waiter never made it back for refills as he was very busy.
Gambling:
Laura won $50 on "her" Eagle Rock machine. (At one point she was up $250) I had suggested it was time to leave but to no avail.
I "found" $24 in promo money still on a machine [Kitty Glitter](it must be played through the machine before it can be cashed out). Evidentally the gamblers had cashed out but didn't notice the promo balance when he/she left the machine. I played it for about 1/2 an hour then cashed out $5.
I lost $15 on a variety of other machines.
All in all a good fun trip!
