Work and Play Part II

July 11th:

I woke up a little early and Kim wasn’t still tired so I went down to play a little at Sam’s Town. I tried the triple play 10 coin 2 cent progressives at 2 cents. I played for about an hour and didn’t hit anything exciting. They kept on calling for players to the 2-6 spread limit hold-em game in the poker room. I had lost $40 so I decided to head there. I played for a couple of hours and won my money back and more with a $71 win when Kim texted and said she was up and ready to go.

I took her up some coffee from McDonalds and we headed out. Our first stop was the Eastside Cannery for a couple of match plays. We played black jack and both won for $20 wins. We then headed out to the condo. I was going to sweep the floors while Kim swam. I got all the dirt and dust up from under the carpeting that I had pulled. We had some chips to snack on when we got there. When I finished, we decided to head out to the Suncoast to play for a buffet. The Suncoast had a promotion for 300 points you could get a buffet for that day. We ended up getting 700 points so we could get dinner and a movie as well.

We saw a bank of triple play nickels where the progressive was at $5000 for a dealt royal. That would have been really nice yesterday if I had been playing there. We found a couple of open spot and sit down. We were playing 9-6-5 double bonus. I was dealt four to the royal in clubs and up popped the queen of clubs on the bottom line after just 5 minutes of play. The progressive was at $232 on that particular line. Kim struggled and lost $40 rather quickly. I was starting to drain too so we left there at went to some 2 cent 10 plays that pays a progressive on a dealt royal. These were at $3000 for the dealt royal. Neither of us did much there. Kim lost patience with the video poker and tried slots for a while. After about 3 hours of play, I cashed out $160 ahead. Kim had lost $79 on video poker and $20 on slots.

We enjoyed our buffet then decided to use a couple of movie passes we had earned on a prior trip. We saw “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”. It was fairly funny, and we enjoyed the price which was free. We headed back to the room after that to call it a night.

July 12th:

We slept in today so we got around rather late. We headed out to the Suncoast to get the lunch buffet for $5 special. We got our voucher at the kiosk for lunch and jumped into the long line. We started talking to the two men ahead of us. One was a veteran of the Korean War and the other was also a veteran. They were both elderly and very interesting to listen to. It finally became their turn and the lady said that they needed the voucher to get the $5 lunch. One of the men said he didn’t know and hadn’t been there in three years since his wife had passed away. The lady wasn’t going to let them get the $5 lunch and charge them the usual $7.99 unless they wanted to go back to the kiosk then stand in line again. I asked if I could cover their meal with my points and she said I could so I told them lunch was on me. The meal was decent.

We decided to play a little when we got done. I lost $17 after an hour of playing the triple play progressives. Kim lost $17 as well, but also lost $8 on the buffalos. We headed out after that to talk to my insurance agent who had an office in that area. We got the condo insured for another year then went to some local stores for a little shopping. We headed back to Suncoast after a few hours for dinner that we had earned the prior night. The meal was at “Fans” which is a sports oriented spot located next to the movie complex. I had a burger and Kim had loaded nachos. The meal was outstanding and free.

We headed back to Sam’s Town to take advantage of 7x points on video poker and 15x points on Buffalos. I was hoping for a continued hot streak, but that was not to be the case. This session was so unexciting that I just will give the damage. Bill lost $120 after 4 hours of video poker play and $5 on the Buffalos. Kim lost $26 on video poker and $20 on the Buffalos. Time for bed.

July 13th:

We got up and decided to play a little at Sam’s Town before doing anything else. Today was Wednesday and Young at Heart day at Sam’s Town. We swiped our cards at the kiosk and both got 5x on video poker and 10x on slots. We both started at the triple play 10 coin 2 cent progressives. Kim was dealt quad 4’s to keep her afloat. I was getting periodic quads to keep my play going. We put in 3 hours and Kim cashed out $20 down on video poker, but was $40 down on slots. I ended up $8 up for the session. We had qualified for the free lunch buffet and dinner buffet. Sam’s Town has a nice bonus that allows you to use some of those earned bonus the following Monday. So we ate a late lunch and headed out.

We went to the condo and did some work. We worked for about 4 hours. We went over to the Orleans to do their Young and Heart for dinner. We went to the triple play nickel machine that have progressives. They have 9-7-5 double bonus which I love to play there. We both had really good sessions. Kim cashed out $70 when her quad 3’s dealt held up for a profit this time. I cashed out $25 ahead. We used two $15 vouchers from the Young at Heart promotion to get dinner at the café. I had steak and eggs and Kim had a quesadilla. Both were excellent. It was getting late by now, so we headed back to call it a day.

July 14th:

Today is going to be “Swag” day. We are going to several places to pick up what is probably useless stuff, but we are going to have fun doing it. First stop is the Eastside Cannery to get a rolling cooler. We sit down at some ten play penny machines. They had only 9-6-4 double bonus poker. I got on a roll and was hitting several quads. I then was dealt four to the royal and hit it on one line. A little later I kept a single king of hearts and hit the royal on a line. Kim also played on my card since we just wanted one cooler. She was basically continuing the trend of losing while I was winning. When we had reached 400 points I was $95 ahead and she was $51 down. This wasn’t too bad of a result, we won $44 and got a rolling cooler.

Next stop was the Fiesta for some 30th anniversary hats. You needed 300 points for the hats. We went to the ten play penny progressives again. Neither of us could do much. My hat cost me $38. Ironically, Kim’s hat also cost her $38. We decided to use another 2 for 1 coupon and eat the buffet for lunch. I used points again to cover the costs.

Next stop was the Orleans for some sun visors and sun screen. Again 300 points was the goal, and we went to the triple play nickel progressives to do our damage. I couldn’t do much here, but Kim was dealt quads on two occasions and was the one to carry the load for this time. She was paid $95 for her visor while head wear was costing me again to the tune of $50 this time.

We decided to take a break from gambling and went to the outlet mall near downtown. We spent a couple of hours there then decided to head to Fremont Street. We parked at the valet at the Main Street Station. We went over to the Fremont and decided to do their promotion of 200 points for the dinner buffet. Kim again found some ten play pennies and since there wasn’t another spot open I decided to try quarter pick-em. I ended up losing $34 without hitting much more than a flush. Kim lost her $20 buy-in just has she hit the 200 point mark. We went and got our vouchers and had the buffet at Fremont. Kim considers this one her least favorite of all the Boyd casinos.

After that, we spent a couple of hours listening to the cover bands on Fremont. We then headed back to the MSS to get the car. Kim wanted me to take a shot at the double-double bonus progressives in nickels on the right. I put a $10 and lost it in about 15 minutes. We got our car and headed back to Sam’s Town. I took Kim up to the room since she was ready to go to bed. On the way up we noticed on the 9th floor…..well let’s just say we were getting a show. We laughed and laughed and had to go down the elevator one more time just to see if he noticed him and the lady he was with were being observed. Kim decided we should report it so we went to the front desk to let them know. We went back up and they were still performing. Kim went to the room and I went down and played about an hour of triple play video poker losing $18 in the process before calling it a night.

July 15th:

Today was once again moving day. We were going to spend one night at the El Cortez. We gathered our stuff and checked out. Our total bill at Sam’s Town for five nights was $80 since we had three of the nights comped. Our first stop was the Fiesta to play the 10 play pennies for the scratch cards. Kim lost $6 playing for the 100 points and I lost $20. I actually got a $5 dinning credit and Kim got 3000 points this time.
We forgot that we wanted to stop at Joker’s Wild to do a promotion of for 100 points you got a set of really cool looking cow salt and pepper shakers. Kim played some quarter bonus poker since she had a coupon good for 100 coins in bonus for any quads. I played some 10 coin nickel double-double 9-6 bonus. Kim won $10 getting her shakers and I donated $18. We did a couple of things at the condo then headed over to the Silverton.

We wanted to do the promotion of playing the Kiosk game after 500 points. I found my usual wheel spin and Kim played the bonus triple plays that pay extra on the quads. Kim struggled and was $40 when she got 500 points. She got $25 in free play at the kiosk game and turned that into a smaller loss of $10. I pretty well broke even on the wheel spin game. I got $25 in free play also. I parlayed it into a $33 win.

We then headed back downtown. We had tickets to see Boston in concert tonight. We parked at the El Cortez to check in. I had somehow scored a Friday night cabana suite for $28. We checked in and Kim was ready for a nap. I decided to head over and play a little video poker. I found a triple play bonus that payed extra for the quads at 6 coins a hand that had 9-5 bonus. I played that for a couple of hours and ran up a lot of points since I had a 5x multiplier. I cashed out with a $21 win when Kim texted me that she was up.

We headed down Fremont and decided to just get a couple of hot dogs at Fremont since we weren’t that hungry. I used points to cover our $7 meal. We then headed over to the concert area. It was an outdoor concert and it was still 95 even though the sun was down. I was surprised when I saw that Dennis DeYoung was opening up for Boston. The irony of that was that we had tickets to see Styx in Laughlin tomorrow night and DeYoung is the lead singer for Styx. He gave a great concert closing with “Mr. Roboto”. Boston came on and they were amazing as well. We had a good time listening to all their old hits. It was late when we the concert ended so we headed back to enjoy the suite.

July 16th:

We once again would be moving as we were heading to Laughlin. Kim had a comped room at the Aquarius for Saturday night and I had one for Sunday night. We took advantage of the $15 food credit I had with the room at El Cortez and had breakfast at the diner. The menu was much more pricey than the old café and I lamented how I missed the atmosphere and prices to the waiter. He said many people felt the same way. Either way, breakfast was free and it was good. We gathered our stuff and checked out. I had some free play so I played it off before leaving losing $2 in the process.

Our first stop was the Silverton to put 500 points on our cards again for the kiosk game. Kim went to her triple play bonus machines while I went to my trusty wheel spin. I cashed out $80 ahead getting $25 on the kiosk game. Kim lost $34 even with $25 free play from the kiosk game.

The last stop on the way out of town was the Fiesta for the scratch off promotion. We went back to the 10 play penny machines. I snuck in a $7 win and Kim finally hit a royal flush for $45. She cashed out with that exact same amount. Kim got $5 in dinning credits while I got 2000 points on our scratch off tickets. Next was the exciting drive to Laughlin. Kim slept while I listened to a couple of baseball games.

We checked in at the Aquarius and went up the room to rest for a short time. We then went over to the Edgewater for their seafood buffet. I had the ACG two for one coupon and used it. I thought I had some points on my card, but I had used them in March so we actually paid $20 for half a meal. It was seafood night, so $10 each for crab legs wasn’t that bad of a deal.

We headed to the concert after the meal. Styx was really good and full of energy. The only thing that disappointed me was they didn’t sing “Mr. Roboto” or “Babe”. At least I got to hear both songs the night before. The couple to my right said they have been going to Styx concerts the past 15 years and they have quit doing both songs.

We headed over to the Colorado Belle to check it out and played a little video poker there. We played the progressive single line nickel Joker’s Wild by the poker room. Kim lost $20 and I lost $15. We then went back to the Aquarius and played various games for the next hour. I lost $15 playing video poker, Kim lost one $20 bill in video poker and one in slots. It was late and we didn’t want to lose anymore so we called it a night.
