Thanks again all for the kind posts!
Anthony, the coupon at the D was redeemed at the D Club on July, 5. It was roughly 7 p.m. The gentleman who gave me the run-around had like a czech accent, or Romanian, or somesuch. Just wanted to warn others of what happened. I was not angry that he didn't understand what the coupon worked, I was most upset about him sending me in a line to get the voucher, then tell me he couldn't honor it because he didn't know how it worked. I don't ever plan on going back there unless some things change on the floor. Thanks for your attention!
Back to the story!
Early Tuesday morning I made a big bowlful of Cream of Wheat, to go with my orange juice. Went to the workout room of the new timeshare we moved into right off Silverado. We moved here because the other timeshare didn't have the date we needed to stay any further. My wife drove me to what I think "Poker Heaven" looks like back at the Rio.
Once inside the Amazon room we went to find our new table, that was listed on the copy of the triplicate paper I filled out on Saturday. Once at the table we find that our table was moved to a T.V. table. It was one of the tables used for the Drop-One-Drop Million dollar tourney that was held the week before. My wife and friend could see the hands being played on the screen above the table instead of squinting to see what the cards on the table were. I told my friend that if I didn't double up in 15 minutes or less I would probably be out of this thing, so get your cell phone video thingie ready for some serious shoving! The overall day 1 chip leader was sitting to the left of me(from England). He had 301k in chips, compared to my paltry 5,850. There was a noted pro at the table from Asia but I didn't recognize who he was.
Despite playing nothing but quality players the Saturday before, I noted one weak player that was calling everything with any 2 cards. This idiot was from Chicago and he scared me very much. When playing online this is the type of player that will knock you out, and then spread his chips to everybody else while finally getting knocked out himself. I know what the good players do! I finally get a shoving hand that is playable but not great: A-6 suited. Everyone folds to the blind, who it the idiot from Chicago. He knocked out someone on the previous hand with his A-9 vs. AK. Of course a 9 hits and he does the dance of the donk of getting lucky and taking somebody out. He tells me: "I know I'm beat but I will gamble with you", and turns over 4-2 offsuit. Everybody else at the table laughs after seeing what he turned over. The flop: K-9-8. The turn: Q. The river: 4! The idiot from Chicago jumps from the table and starts doing the "donk dance". Other players got angry over his behavior but it simply didn't matter now. I was out and it was over as quickly as that! It was over and I was disappointed, but played well. I had my money in with the best hand and I couldn't have asked for an easier opponent. I took the "walk of shame" out of the Amazon Room and into obscurity. My friend filmed the whole thing and sent it back to all concerned within seconds.
I didn't let the horrible beat ruin my day as we decided to get a few bottles of wine and celebrate even being in such a great event! My wife took another timeshare walk-thru and got us free tickets to the Mob Tour at the Tropicana. It was like another poster here said it would be like. I'm glad to have gone. If anybody is into the Mob story like I was will need to go by there and give it a long look!
The next day we hung around and just chilled, getting ready to drive to the Grand Canyon, then to Albuquerque, where we stayed overnight to go back to Texas.
Overall a most memorable experience. My biggest disappointment in getting donked out of the tourny was that I may never get back to the WSOP Main Event. If it was a series of Main Events that would be one thing. But if it may be your last......
Thanks for reading this and I hope some of this helped. I didn't get near the EV out of my POV book but will try to get back soon!
