Also, I see you are from the Little Rock area, which reminded me of growing up and listening to BEAKER STREET on a radio station out of Little Rock! Pretty good (and somewhat far out!) stuff for my sister and I listening from our shared bedroom in South Central Minnesota, as we were both huge music lovers!! As I recall it came on later in the evening. Did you listen? Gail

Gail, I certainly did listen to radio during my teen years, which was about all we had back then, other than 45's on the record player.

I'm sorry to say that I don't remember BEAKER STREET. Was that a song or a show? I can't believe you could get a LR station way up in Minnesota!

Candy, Beaker Street was a program that came on late at night - 10:00 or maybe even later. Checking Wikipedia they call it the first underground music program broadcast regularly on a commercial radio station and it ran from 1966 till 1972. Clyde Clifford was the "laid-back" announcer. I can't tell you how it is that this program came in so clearly late at night in MN, but it was fun listening! I just realized that on You Tube there's quite a few things about it, including the final program broadcast. It also states that the 50,000 watt station could be heard in much of the US! It was quite interesting! Check it out on You Tube!

50,000 Watt Stations are quite powerful and can be heard in many states and elsewhere. I know that KFI in Los Angeles can be heard in many states and even in the Ocean way off. I heard a guy call in recently and say that he was somewhere out to sea in (I think) South America and could hear it.

Yes, i read they were listening to that station in Havana, Cuba also!!
If it started up in 1966, that explains why I didn't know about it.
I graduated high school 1965 and left home for nursing school. After graduation I stayed in Memphis until 1980 when I moved back to Little Rock.

Sounds like I missed a good thing. Not sure mom would have let me stay up after 10 on school nights, though I had a little transistor radio that I kept under my pillow, tee hee!
