115,000 Deposits on the Model 3 in first day.

Reservations for the new Tesla 3 began yesterday. By midnight in the East, 115,000 One Thousand Dollar reservations were transacted. The new Model starts at around $35,000 but early buyers will qualify for $7500 in tax credits. I got mine. Anyone else? Its a stunning car. I like the lines better than the S, although its a good bit smaller. Details are still scarce but it should exceed 200 miles a charge.
You don't ride a bicycle? What, do you hate the Earth?
Shhhhh ! Electric cars are a very sore subject around here - especially that pesky Chevy Volt. Its all just a big government, liberal science fiction.... and you cant run a car with a windmill, silly !

But just between you and me, the new Tesla sounds like its going to be a serious player. They will need to prove they can manufacture them fast enough to meet demand - a problem they've struggled with so far. Maybe that giga-factory in Reno will help on that front.

The volt has sold less than 100,000 cars in the US in the 5 years it has been marketed, in spite of all the money invested in marketing it. Many of these cars have been bought by the govt. Most people would consider this car a dud.

And the energy to run electric vehicles comes from those evil coal, gas & nuclear electric power plants.

Does pj own a volt?

Who cares about the volt. Tesla has sold 100,000 Model S vehicles in three years, with next to none sold to the goobermint.
115,000 Model Es were reserved yesterday.

I thought everyone who bought a Volt died in a vehicle fire?
I hear of limited charging stations. I hear of people in public places unplugging from one car where the owner isn't present and plugging into their car. You can really only use these things for around town and not for trips where you need to travel several hundred miles. You can have them.
You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. You can't unplug a car from a super charger unless the key is in the proper position. Pretty sure people don't wander away from $60,000 cars leaving their keys behind. If they do, they are stupid.
Two years ago, you'd be hard pressed to get from LA to Vegas, or NYC to Washington. Using only the free supercharger network, one can now go from LA to Miami,up to NY,head to Chicago, shoot up to Seattle and head back to LA. Without paying a dime for fuel. My Mazda gets about 35 miles on the highway and that trip would use at least 250 gallons of gas. It's easier to find an electrical charger in Manhattan than to find a gas station.

In the news not very long ago. Oh I'm sure you can get anywhere, but how long does it take to recharge?
Here is a NY Times article about it.

...Unlike gas stations, charging stations are not yet in great supply, and that has led to sharp-elbowed competition. Electric-vehicle owners are unplugging one another’s cars, trading insults, and creating black markets and side deals to trade spots in corporate parking lots.
