12/18/13 MGM Grand 20th Anniversary Celebration

T-14

Join us on December 18th at PUB 1842 at 5:00 PM to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MGM Grand. We'll supply the Lucky Party Hats.

This is the Unofficial MGM Grand 20th Anniversary Celebration. A little background...

Imagine my joy when I learned that my annual trip to Vegas with my Gambling buddies coincided with the 20th Anniversary of the MGM...where we were staying. It was fate. I e-mailed about 20 people over at MGM to find out what special events they had planned for the big day.

Imagine my disappointment when I learned that the MGM wasn't planning to have a Grand 20th Anniversary celebration. Although they said 'They weren't planning' I think what they were really saying was 'We need help with this'.

My friends and I decided to help them. We invented the Lucky Party Hat with Ear Flap Reference Cards. We have produced the Hats in massive quantities and are sending them to Vegas TV and Radio Personalities, Minor Celebrities and Members of the MGM Family.

Meet us on 12/18/13 and you too can have a free Lucky Party Hat (while supplies last).

LPH with Earflap Reference Cards

There will also be a limited number of free Lucky Kazoos.
I can't believe it is 20 years old already
It just so happens that I am staying at MGM 12/13-12/20. I had no idea it was the 20th anniversary. Cool. I'll have to swing into 1842
What a perfect time to hit the Lions Share jckpot

Your signed limited edition Lucky Party Hat will be waiting for you!

Sweet. I am really surprised they arent playing the anniversary up more. Maybe they dont want the place to be known as 20 years old?

Scott Sibella is President and CEO of MGM International. I guessed his email address and sent him an email a over a month ago along with about 20 other MGM employees. He did not respond. I suggested a whole host of ideas to get things going...like extended happy hours at all bars, retro pricing at restaurants, fireworks, commemorative $5.00 chips, Dorothy Imitators...that sort of thing/

A few weeks back I sent him another e-mail. I tried to make it motivating….compelling…to the point where he would have to respond to me.

Dear Mr. Sibella

I’d like to complement three MGM Grand Employees; Concierge Oliver Sambilay, Marketing Executive Keith Murakami, and Public Relations Director Stacy Hamilton. I’m staying at the Las Vegas MGM Grand on December 18. I learned that December 18th will actually be MGM Grand’s 20th anniversary and wondered if you were doing anything special to commemorate the Grand Opening. I sent an email to several MGM employees asking what events were planned for the Grand Anniversary and I provided a few suggestions for December 18.

Each of these employees went out of their way to be helpful in my quest for information; in particular Ms. Hamilton

1. Stacy informed me that there are no current plans for a public celebration, but also mentioned there is quite a bit going on behind the scenes “to celebrate our valued team members, many of whom have been with us since day one “
2. She shared my ideas with your marketing and events team just in case “they do decide to create a public celebration around the anniversary”
3. She also suggested “a lot has changed in the last year or so with newly remodeled rooms, a new nightclub (Hakkasan) and several new restaurants.”
4. And finally Stacy hoped I would have a wonderful stay and thanked me for my ideas.

That was a very thoughtful and professional response.

In addition to your current team members, The MGM Grand holds a place in the hearts of millions of visitors, hundreds of thousands of guests; and tens of thousands of local vendors, former team members, friends and neighbors. I think we’d all like to share in the 20th anniversary celebration.

I bet if you challenged your great marketing staff and restaurant partners, you could fill the place on December 18. Why not have a Grand Celebration on what would otherwise be the slowest day of the week in the middle of the slowest week of the year? It’s good for you. It’s good for Las Vegas. It’s good for me.

Regards,

AlanLeroy

Scott Sibella's response: "Thank you for the e-mail. I will share with our team." At the time, I interpreted this to mean either..."I'll get right on it, AlanLeroy" or maybe "Must make him go away".

That was then. Now, I've sent Lucky Party hats to all of the morning television and radio shows....to minor celebrities like Mike Tyson and Carrot Top...and to the Press...heck I'm even sending one to Anthony. I've also posted the event on community calendars and other message boards, and we have a whole social network campaign started.

Now we don't need Scotty Sibella or the MGM to throw us a party.....because a party is just a state of mind. As long as everyone thinks there's going to be a party and there are plenty of Lucky Party Hats....how can there not be a party? Even if it's just hockeydad, me and my two buddies...we're going to show them how it's done....

I am so very down.
You should be ON the marketing team AlanLeroy. If not for MGM for someone.
You make me want to change my holiday plans so I can be there that day.
If I would have known MGM was having a 20th anniversary party, I would have made plans to attend.

May I suggest you hire some pretty girls and have them hand out free drink coupons. Even better, if you have a pretty girl dress up as Dorothy, and you and your friends dress up at Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Strawman and lead the parade of folks from the strip back to the Pub 1842 in search of their complimentary cocktails. Perhaps Mr. Sibella or someone on his team would have the honor of being the Wizard.
