$15 Dollar Minimum Wage Passed In California And New York

My friends family has owned All American Hamburger in Massapequa for three generations now. It was formerly a Wessons and when they went out of business his father scooped up the building at a bargain basement price.
Fast forward 50plus years and the place is thriving. Its more expensive than other burger places and is strictly no frills. No drive thru, no credit cards, no indoor seating. You go there, wait on the inevitable line, get your food and either eat in your car or take it home.
They only hire locals, for the most part, and start 16 year old kids out at $12 an hour and give raises every few months. They will pay college tuition if you've worked there for a year and work 20 hours a week during the school year. If you go to a SUNY school, they will pay for it. If you go to private school, they give you the equal to the SUNY tuition. If you worked for them in high school and go away to college, they almost always will hire you back for the summer.
Why do they pay so much? Its simple. They learned a long ago that it cost much more to constantly train new employees than it does to retain good ones.
People go to work at Burger King or Wendys and move on as soon as a better job comes along. My local Burger King must have about 80% turnover every month. I see a constantly changing cast of managers and crew. All American has a very small turnover. They have five year and ten year pins. Its rare you get waited on and dont see one or two of those pins on the people at the registrars. If you get past their 30 day probation period, you have a job as long as you want. He's got woman who started in high school who have families and still work part time when they can. They close from December 23rd thru Jan 10th each year, and anyone there six months gets the time off paid.
To all yall who think burger flippers should get $15 and hour.

My last job paid $12.50/hr for level II help desk and THEY are bitching about a "living wage".....I have a REAL JOB and these idiots will get a lesson once they get dumped like garbage due to their greed....

It will be 2022 before the $15 kicks in. I don't think today's minimum wage should be $15, but I think it should be a good bit higher than it is. $10 today, and $1 a year increase works for me.

All American burger? All American Burger!?

Why I know a guy who worked at an AAB. I wonder if they're the same one?

All American in Massapequa is legendary on Long Island. It a stand alone operation, not a chain.
McDonald's Tests Self-Serve McCafe Coffee Kiosk

And another McDonald's employee, . . . or perhaps thousands, . . . joins the ranks of the unemployed.

Given the current employment history within the United States this could make the numbers look bad all over.

And accelerate the closing of businesses and making millions unemployable. A restaurant owner making over $100K who sees his income cut in half because of the new law will just close and take a job as a manager for a large chain. Just think how hard it's going to be to fill those $15 an hour jobs from the not so great job pool in San Bernardino and Stockton. Sometimes I think there are no words to describe how stupid most liberals are.

Why would an owner see his income cut in half because his cost of labor increased? I'm guessing you've never run a business.

I've been self-employed the majority of my adult life. Labor for some businesses will increase 60%. The average McDonald's franchise net profit is about $150K. Non-manager payroll is about $500K. If that goes up 50-60% it only takes basic math to see that the business is in peril. Added productivity and raising prices will compensate some, but try raising prices in depressed areas of California. Or, try raising prices to compensate if you're an internet business competing against others in states without the huge new labor expense. There are plenty of small businesses barely getting by who only have 1-2 employees. They're pretty much toast. It's going to be harder for small businesses to grow because employers will be more cautious with $15 than they were at $10. California, a state with so many low IQ residents, just made much of their population unemployable by this dumb new law. When even liberal publications like USA today are calling it foolish you know it's going to end badly.

A three second Google search shows McDonald's franchisees made a profit of between $500,000 and $1,300,000 in2013. $15 kicks in in 2022 so you can raise those figures about 30%.
Considering that the trend is for owners to own multiple stores, I think I back the workers in this.
