I have been a LVA subscriber since 1998 I think - I think the best book overall was in 2002 - it was a no brainer that you HAD to get the MRB (Pocketbook of Values back then) - the value then was at least 6 times what you paid for the book.
The book took its biggest hit a couple of years ago when all the matchplays were removed. (I know a couple are now back).
I can sort of understand the concerns about abusing the coupons and runining it for everyone so now the value is now just about double what you pay - and you have to casino hop like crazy and spend $$$ on transportation just to get that value.
I still buy the membership because you still get the value (about double the $37 investment) for all practical purposes. People in Vegas would probably get more value if they have a whole year to use the coupons compared to me who is just there 8 days.
Basically you get the $37 back in free slot play and the rest is a bonus but keep in mind that I also buy the American Casino Guide so in 8 days you can only go to so many buffets and so forth.
But THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF COUPONING ARE GONE. I remember going to Vegas armed with
1)The American Casino Guide
2)LVA Pocketbook of Values
3)Casino Perks
4)Casino Player Funbook
2002 I think
There were 5-600 in EV in gambling coupons alone for which you paid about $125 combined for all the books and subscriptions etc.
Now today there is another book, Southern Gaming, but the offers in my opinion are not worth the $29 though the magazine itself is superb, but somehow I get that for free anyway without paying the $29.
The $29 might be worth it if you were heading to Louisiana & Mississippi but not Vegas. I don't need a coupon to get a $29 room at Wild Wild West (lol).
Anyway, maybe someday it will get better again - and there is always poker (lol).
