2012 opening show for Olympics vs 2008 opening show

While I think the 2008 opening of the Olympics for Beijing had the better technical show, I think the London show was much more involved with today's culture. I loved the clip where James Bond and the queen went sky diving.

While the Olympics contains many sports that are much more popular in Europe than the US, I plan to enjoy such sports, and have come to the conclusion that you only see such sports once every four years, and that you are seeing the very best in the world.

Bottom line it isn't football, basketball or baseball, but roll with the wave and enjoy it.
I particurlarly loved that they played Eclipse from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon after the cauldron was lit.

I tweeted last night that I think Paul McCartney must have the same plastic surgeon as Bruce Jenner

I have never seen archery, bow and arrow, whatever it is called. By sheer accident I tuned in on it today...was truly fascinated and appreciate the strength and artestry involved. Sorry that team USA seemed to choke early in the final round for the Gold, though they almost pulled it off. Congrats to them for winning the Silver!
While the Beijing opening ceremonies were more impressive from a technical perspective, I had a harder time enjoying them. To my eyes, they were too much the product of fear rather than pride.

I kept thinking that the Chinese government would persecute the family of any participant who screwed up, who didn't present the face of a perfect China. China's continued hostility to fundamental human rights scares me a lot.

By contrast, the London ceremonies depicted a nation that loves its citizens, no matter the race, no matter the religion, no matter the disability. Heck, they even showcased their justified pride in their National Health Service, which has provided top quality taxpayer-funded health care to everyone in the country since WW2!

Very impressive, London!
