2Q Loss for MRI: Just like rival Caesars Ent., MGM Resorts International also posted a second-quarter loss double what analysts had forecast, saying that visitors during the period spent more at casinos and paid higher hotel rates, but saw fewer shows, bought cheaper food, and shopped less in an age where major resort-casinos frequently make more from non-gambling activities than they do from the gaming floor

When I first read this, I thought it was because of the dang resort fees but if Caesars is affected then the problem is more severe than I first thought. The shows in Vegas are getting pricier and it's harder to get good seats as well.

If resort fees hurt the bottom line, they'd get rid of them.

I have a hard time believing that shows, shops, etc. make more money for casino companies than gambling does. Just my opinion.

Finally gave up and sold my MGM stock last year at a big loss, darn economy

I forgot who said a gaming license is a license to steal. If you can't make a profit with a casino you are doing something wrong. I don't beleive for a minute they make more on food and shops than gambling.

I never shop or eat gourmet when in Vegas and I am sure most people are like me, they go to gamble and party. Vegas needs to wise up and turn back the clock 20 years IMHO.
