Sue contact your boss at corporate to verify these statistics. I want to know what he thinks (not you). I want you to call tomorrow and then report the results on here not later than Saturday evening.

On the RARE occasions where someone commits suicide or is killed in and around Vegas casinos, these incidents are reported on the local news.

Hanging in a hotel room? Gotta agree with DonDiego. It's much more efficient to jump off a roof. lol
this is great news! maybe we can have 29387432987 threads about hangings now!

we can calculate room height vs human height
how much extra rope is required per extra pound of body weight
if you hang yourself from a light fixture, does it fall down with you?
how many parts of drywall vs water do you need to fill the hole in the ceiling?
how much weight can a shower bar hold?
lets all prove dondiego wrong with math that none of us understand!

yayayayayaayayaayay!

FYI, just be wary of hotels who offer rope in the resort fees package.

The very first suicide I investigated was at a hotel where a fellow used his belt. He closed his room door with the belt end lodged at the top. He lowered his legs till he strangled himself. The end of the belt was visible from outside in the hallway. Similarly suicide victims can use bathroom doors or rails in closets.

Slapinfunk was counting and watched as I played

Sue how often does the media report suicides?
"25 people a year (on average) hang themselves in Vegas hotel rooms."

This is a bit high. According to this article the average suicide rate of Las Vegas visitors is just over one per month. When you reduce this number to the subset that hang themselves in Vegas hotel rooms, it would be under half of the 25 stated. Not to say that the numbers are sadly high, but 25 per year is not accurate according to the article cited.

CBS News - Las Vegas Suicides
MANY things go unreported in Vegas. If you are too blind to see or just want to argue with MoneyLA, then i suggest you find a hobby.
Yes, there is actual data on this. The suicide rate is much higher in Las Vegas than in any other major American City. Residents of Vegas have a 60% greater chance of committing suicide than those in the rest of the country, and if they move away their rate goes down 20%. Visitors increase their chances of suicide by about 100%.

The researcher I'm citing doesn't claim to know why, but he guesses it has to do with the copycat effect, and also that people in Vegas are less likely to seek out help from others, because of the wild frontier image of the place.

The rate in Las Vegas is about the same as in all of Japan.
All I can think about are the poor housekeepers that didn't get tipped in those suicide rooms.
