Where is the source for #1 and #2? Just because you post it doesn't make it a "fact."

Sue contact your boss at corporate to verify these statistics. I want to know what he thinks (not you). I want you to call tomorrow and then report the results on here not later than Saturday evening.

Why does this sound so familiar? The text is different but the message is the same..

MANY things go unreported in Vegas. If you are too blind to see or just want to argue with MoneyLA, then i suggest you find a hobby.

loomis,

You make such a persuasive and reasoned argument that I have to concede your point.

From now on I vow to believe everything I read without asking for a source, applying logic or doing any research.
One of my Facebook friends went to Vegas to kill herself but got drunk instead and changed her mind. Vegas can do that.

On the RARE occasions where someone commits suicide or is killed in and around Vegas casinos, these incidents are reported on the local news.

Hanging in a hotel room? Gotta agree with DonDiego. It's much more efficient to jump off a roof. lol

Jumping off a roof is also more efficient, one jump one splat, one death. Plus, there are plenty of nice and tall buildings in and around Vegas to jump from.

Yes, there is actual data on this. The suicide rate is much higher in Las Vegas than in any other major American City. Residents of Vegas have a 60% greater chance of committing suicide than those in the rest of the country, and if they move away their rate goes down 20%. Visitors increase their chances of suicide by about 100%.

The researcher I'm citing doesn't claim to know why, but he guesses it has to do with the copycat effect, and also that people in Vegas are less likely to seek out help from others, because of the wild frontier image of the place.

The rate in Las Vegas is about the same as in all of Japan.

Even without the high speed rail system? Most of Japan's suicides are either jumping from tall buildings or death by train.

"What Hangs in Vegas, . . . Stays in Vegas"
Don Diego notes the following statistic printed in the Las Vegas Sun on 9 June 2011: "Las Vegas during the worst recession in its history turns out to be a pretty sad and mean place. Witness 400 suicides last year in Clark County. "

Perhaps the number original cited by MoneyLA is not so far off. Other sources suggest "jumping from a height" is more likely than "hanging", however,

DD, "Every body like a good hanging" - Robin Hood (the last one)
Since it first opened, the Luxor has had almost 2 dozen indoor "jumpers"
NO NO Chick I always tip when I hang my self in my room.
