423K Lose Obamacare Coverage

"A change in government procedures has led to a big jump in people losing coverage under the Obama health care law because of immigration and citizenship issues.
More than 400,000 had their insurance canceled, nearly four times as many as last year.

Last year, 'we had the authority to provide consumers more flexibility — we were not taking action on the strict timeline,' said Ben Wakana, a spokesman for the Department of Health and Human Services. 'In 2015, we moved to the timeline of about three months, so consumers need to act quickly to submit supporting documentation.' [note i

The number of coverage terminations could actually be higher. The 423,000 figure only represents states served by the federal health insurance market. That does not include immigrant-rich California and New York, which run their own insurance exchanges."

note i: The "change in policy" was to apply the Law as written instead of allowing undocumented immigrants to just sign up.
Good. If you're here illegally you have no business getting subsidized health insurance.
DD, let's not concern ourselves with the facts.

In my state, people lost coverage because they didn't submit the form of required information despite multiple reminders, extensions of the deadline, etc. Can assume some moved and didn't leave forwarding address, got jobs with insurance, or knew they wouldn't meet the eligibility requirements (income, legal status). Or just too lazy to fill out the form and mail it in.

Personal responsibility...get off the sofa, put down the remote control and the expensive I-Phone (though that is one method available to re-apply), fill out (or have your kid do it) the form, insert in pre-addressed envelope, apply stamp (well, that could be a problem) waddle to the mailbox.

We are now only "responsible" if we buy something that the government demands?

Huh? Have no idea what your point is.
If there weren't standards for verifying identities, income levels, and qualifications then the exchanges would be rampant with fraud,.....and then Don Diego would start a thread decrying that aspect...and then Boilerman would make up something about Hillary Clinton and ask me if I care about it.

Now pj wants to verify identities.
LOL.
