If you read the history, even though it was planned in minute detail, we were incredably lucky as the Germans had guessed the wrong landing location, thought the weather was to bad for a landing, many of their generals were away (including Rommel), didn't believe it was the actual invasion and were reluctant to move their tank divisions
I seem to recall that a bunch of soldiers/marines staged a decoy landing on a different beach.
