I got a card from AARP, and it's supposed to give you a discount at Walgreen's. So the other day when I got my prescription for Perkocet from the doctor, I decided to see what Walgreen's was going to charge compared to CVS. I had paid as high as $94 for 60 pills at CVS, although the last time I got it refilled, they charged me $57.
So I walk into Walgreen's, give them my card which has all kinds of numbers on it to see what they would charge me.
The woman asked me if I had filled any prescriptions at Walgreen's before. I told her I hadn't. So she plugs me into the system and fills in all the blanks from the AARP card. I really wasn't expecting any big discount. So I ask her how much the Perkocet is going to be. She says, "Normally it would be $107, but with your AARP discount it will cost you $44!" WTF!!! Fill the damn thing I told her. I then went across the street to pick up Faye's meds, and I asked her what I pai last time for the same thing. She told me I paid $57. So just by walking across the street, I saved $13. Not a bad deal. But I never thought that a discount card from AARP would amount to anything. Just goes to show you, never hurts to ask.
