While I'm sure some of the pedestrian accidents are due to drunk drivers, one only needs to drive the strip or try to pull out of a casino or street where there isn't a walkover to see and understand how there can be so many accidents. Most pedestrians ignore the traffic lights. They will walk right into the street without looking and make the assumption that drivers see them even if it is night time and they are wearing dark clothing. I really believe some people check their brains in when they come to LV and think that are perfectly safe and don't need to use an ounce of common sense.
Thank God for the overhead walkways. I can remember at the Flamingo and LV Blvd intersection how traffic would be tied up due to pedestrians crossing on red lights.
