accupuncture

I was wondering if anyone here has ever dealt with any acupuncturist or anything. The neurapathy in my feet isn't getting any better and the dr today said it will probably never go away(sucks).I asked him if getting a new kidney would help and that was his response.
Anyway I was talking with my mom and she brought it up. The idea had never occurred to me to look into it. I found out my mother in law had accupuncture years ago for migraines,an dapperantly it helped her.

So......anyone here ever had any experience with it? I would greatly appreciate any insight or anything that might be helpful. The thought of oxycontin the rest of my life doubly sucks.

It's worth a shot. I certainly try acupuncture before an operation or oxycontin.
jatki, you'll never know unless you try it.
Personally, I also suffer from neuropathy in my feet, and in my case, accupuncture did next to nothing for me, other than lighten my wallet, kinda like Vegas.
Thanks greenside. I've no idea if insurance will pick it up or not. My dr is also prescribed neuratin(sp) for me. Its an anti-seizure drug that they find helps some of us suffering from neurapathy. Not sure if it is helping or not but it has stopped it from progressing at any rate. I know some days are definitely worse than others, some days its nothing more than some tingling.Fortunately those days are starting to exceed the bad days. Hope the best for ya,thanks again for your input.

The people in my life who've used accupuncture have persuaded me to think that the best that can be say of it is that it probably won't hurt.

But if time's your enemy, I wouldn't waste time on it. I'd do what my doctor advises.
Did you ask your doctor? Personally, Ive never had a doctor who said not to do accupuncture. But when I went for accupuncture from a very well known doctor of Chinese medicine here on the west coast he also gave me a "tea" of Chinese medicinal herbs. When I told my doctor about the "tea" he immediately asked the doctor of chinese medicine what the herbs were. the doctor of Chinese medicine would not reveal the exact herbs and for that reason my MD told me to stop going to the doctor of Chinese medicine.

I will say this about accupuncture... the last two needles (and these do not hurt, you barely feel them, theyre like a "touch" and there is no pain) were placed on my forehead and wihin seconds I was asleep for my treatment session. But because my time with the Doctor of Chinese medicine was so short, I cant tell you if the accupuncture did what it was supposed to do (diabetes and kidney problems). But wow, it sure does put you to sleep in an instant.
Have you tried reflexology? I had a herniated disc and ended up with drop foot. Most (but not all) of feeling in my foot returned. I go about once a month for reflexology and if I don't, I find myself tripping , stumbling and my foot gives out.

I have one in FL and one in MI both are licensed. It is not covered by my insurance . It cost 50 in MI and 70 in FL but well worth the money to me.
My GF also has neuropathy and she has been told the same thing...that it only gets worse. Besides her feet, it now has gone into her hands. We've debated about going to an accupuncturist. After all, what does she have to lose? She is experiencing horrendous pain and takes all different pain medications including morphine and a morphine derivative called Kadian, and only duladin seems tohelp.

Sometimes she feels like ending it all because the pain is so intense. IK'm sure we'll try accupuncture soon, so I'll let you know how it works out.
METANX did wonders for my husband's foot pain/neuropathy, so bad he almost couldn't walke on some days.
It is a prescription "medical food" form of B vitamins, pills.
A neurologist first offered it, gave him samples, dramatic improvement.
I have used acupuncture numerous times.
My upper back goes into spasm now and again. It is so painful
most times I can hardly move. I started going to a physiotherapist
that also offered acupuncture.
I find that it works for my back and would recommend giving it a
try!
