Summary: The Obama intends to change the status of "illegal immigrants" to, . .. well, . . . DonDiego isn't sure, . . . maybe it'll be called "Obama-immigrants-with-newly-authorized-semilegal-status-until-The-Obama-can-just-declare-them-'legal'-or something-else".
.

DonDiego might be shocked to learn that illegal immigrants have been living in the US for decades.
What were those illegal immigrants called when they were allowed to stay in the US in any of the previous administrations? Did they have a catchy, hyphenated, 20 syllable phrase like DonDiego is ascribing them now?

In any event - DonDiego is right. Congress is quickly looking for a new excuse as to why they cant do their job. 4 years until now the excuse has been they didn't think they could trust the president....now the excuse is the president is about to hurt their feelings.

Pollsters estimate that any 2016 presidential candidate is going to require 2/3 of the Latino vote to win. The president is doing something to address Latino concerns...Congress is looking for more excuses as to why they cant. Speaker Boehner's latest excuse is he thinks the president's executive orders might "poison the well". I wish the speaker good luck selling his lack of action to the Latino community. I'm sure they'll understand.

So if DonDiego is reading correctly, pjstroh agrees at last that the President intends to change the status of illegal immigrants - subject to deportation IAW Law - to some other "status, which will certainly not include deportation.

DonDiego is not as easily "shocked" as pjstroh believes. And way-back-when illegal immigrants were called "illegal immigrants", not, f'rinstance, "undocumented workers". And whatever was being done or not being done in previous years, DonDiego has been consistent:
__The border should be secured. Open borders are incompatible with a Welfare State.
__Illegal immigrants should be removed from the country.
__Legal immigration should include procedures to accept the most well trained, productive, law-abiding individuals into the fold of US citizenship.

DonDiego suggests that The Obama should not be addressing the "concerns" of illegal immigrants, but rather those of all US citizens regardless of their race, color, creed, or national origins. He recognizes this is not The Democrat Way.

DonDiego thanks pjstroh for the compliment.
I suggest that PJ read Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution. He will find that immigration rules belong to Congress not the president.

And not the states, either.

So what PJ is saying that the democrats need to buy off the Latino vote to win, and in order to continue to win they need to legalize the current illegals. I think that would be called pandering to the voters...
Actually, when office holders carry out the wishes of their constituents, it's called democracy.

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's likely a duck.

If a Mexican crosses the boarder, gets a job, a drivers licence, a SS card, the same legal rights as American citizen...............and the list goes on and on..................he's walking like a duck and quacking like a duck. He's a duck, or in this case, an American citizen.

Or can PJ explain the difference in practices. A difference in words makes no difference.

There is also the mysterious purchase order for millions of green cards

I like to think I'm a pretty good reader.

I've gone through your quote with a fine tooth comb and nowhere can I find anything about legalizing illegal immigrants.

Does this include lynching of blacks?

When office holders abide by a Constitution it is called a Republic.

"An elective despotism was not the government we fought for; but one which should not only be founded on free principles, but in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among several bodies of magistracy, as that no one could transcend their legal limits, without being effectually checked and restrained by the others."[italics Jefferson's]

I think old Tom was saying that we just got rid of one friggin King we don't need another one! Those founding fathers had some foresight, even the liberal ones like Jefferson.

Excuse the hell out of me! I thought Obama and his minions had the majority of BOTH the House and Senate for 2 years and the majority in the Senate for the next 4 and he couldn't get congress to DO anything? Gee what kind of crack are you smoking there PJ?

I have to PJ credit for being the last person here waving the tattered liberal flag. Other than a few snippy comments from forky, all the others, chilly, dave, #51 to name a few have suddenly grown silent.

In other news the Republicans picked up another Senate seat last night, bringing their total to 53
