I have several colleagues who are from and live in Canada. They come to the US for all their health care needs. You would think this would be an argument against Canada's health care system. Not exactly. These people are quite wealthy and can afford uninsured US healthcare.
If you are on the lower end of the economic spectrum then yes, you would most likely be better off in Canada. Don't worry about high taxes and gas, you won't be paying those anyway.
If you are a part of the middle or upper economic class you will find their system unbelievably slow and inadequate.
While on a business trip I went to an emergency room in Calgary for a head and neck injury due to an embarrassing and inebriated stunt. The attending Dr. suspected a concussion and possible vertebrae damage. X-rays and an MRI were needed for further diagnosis. The problem was they did not perform these at night, I would have to wait till the next morning, 9 hours, for them to be done! And this was an emergency situation. I was not the only one, there were other patients there with even more life threatening injuries, they would have to wait as well.
Just remember, you get what you pay for.
If you cannot afford any health insurance at all then you most likely be better off in Canada. If you are in the middle class you will be trading high insurance cost for terrible service. Depending on your health this might be worth it. Or not.
