Ahh...the wonders of single payer health care

Courtesy of the UK and their NHS system. Now I see what all the "progressives" have been clamoring for.

The UK does not have single payer healthcare, it has government run healthcare.

For single-payer, think Canada. Or Medicare.

We were on a dinner cruise down he last night and there were a bunch of Canadiens on it too. The subject of the govt shut down over health insurance came up and they were totally laughat us Americans(not us personally, but as a whole). It was hard for them to fathom that such a great nation has made such a mes of healthcare and how pleased they are with theirs.

got acold? go to the dr
Break your arm? hospiital
Nedsurgery? all and schedule it.

Simple

I agree, just scrap the whole deal and go to a single payer system.
A friend of ours just had to move her sister down here from Canada. Her sister has ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Our friend was describing how well her sister was taken care of up in Canada. She even had an at home nurse during the day and then a different one at night. The woman will be out of money within six months after moving here and then they don't know what they will do.

Our friend said you pay a ton in taxes and you spend $7.00 for a gallon of gas but at least you won't die broke because of a health condition.

I have several colleagues who are from and live in Canada. They come to the US for all their health care needs. You would think this would be an argument against Canada's health care system. Not exactly. These people are quite wealthy and can afford uninsured US healthcare.

If you are on the lower end of the economic spectrum then yes, you would most likely be better off in Canada. Don't worry about high taxes and gas, you won't be paying those anyway.

If you are a part of the middle or upper economic class you will find their system unbelievably slow and inadequate.
While on a business trip I went to an emergency room in Calgary for a head and neck injury due to an embarrassing and inebriated stunt. The attending Dr. suspected a concussion and possible vertebrae damage. X-rays and an MRI were needed for further diagnosis. The problem was they did not perform these at night, I would have to wait till the next morning, 9 hours, for them to be done! And this was an emergency situation. I was not the only one, there were other patients there with even more life threatening injuries, they would have to wait as well.

Just remember, you get what you pay for.
If you cannot afford any health insurance at all then you most likely be better off in Canada. If you are in the middle class you will be trading high insurance cost for terrible service. Depending on your health this might be worth it. Or not.
