airline prices are high-whats the deal

You've heard it here people.
Now quit your damn bitchin' and suck it up.
I got round trip airfare on American for February for two people total price 514.00. Going from DFW to Las Vegas. Booked it back in October.

US Airways used to be cheaper than American until they stopped doing nonstop flights.
Not necessarily for Vegas flights, I've found lower prices on USAir on Saturdays.
If you are a gambling man you might wait a bit. Oil prices indirectly feed into airline tickets. This is seasonally a time when oil prices drop ... and with all the crap going on in Europe you may see oil take a nice drop in January. If it does you'll see some airlines like Southwest cut prices immediately....and then the rest of the crowd shortly thereafter.

This is one of the reasons I fly Jet Blue. I can book my flights at todays price, but if they drop at all, I simply call for a refund. My Jan flight came in at almost $400 RT, but I'm sure it will go down between now and then, and meanwhile I have my seats confirmed.
Its the price of rental cars that has me a bit concerned. I have not found anything under $400 for the 22 days I need one. Last year, I paid $301 for 23 days.
When I fly back to boston it is usually around $160 each way plus fees on Jet Blue. I love that airline.
