Al Davis passes away

Story Here:

Al Davis did it his way
If you are interested in a different look at Al Davis. Try reading the book "Slick". It will shed a different light on the man.
His former players loved the man. That's pretty rare, he was doing something right.

being a Bronco fan, I really disliked Al and the Raiders. Seemed to be cheap shot artist at the highest level. Al instilled in his team a "us against the world". His revolving head coaches was a joke with most NFL folks and fans.
But he did move the AFL and NFL to a merger. That was one of the most important things he could have ever done. We all enjoy what he has done and accomplished every Sunday afternoon.

RIP Al

Al Davis was a perfect type owner for all of the misguided thugs and miscreants that gravitated to the Raiders. His "just win baby" mantra gave his players the avenue to do what they knew to do best- namely spit, gouge, twist arms and legs, cheap shot knees, all the while doing what ever it took to claim victory. It is easy to understand why " his former players loved the man" for they were a mirror image of him. As far as unifying the NFL and AFL, that merger was a no brainer. It meant more exposure and money for all concerned. After the rest of the NFL got wise to his players dirty "winning" tactics and the rules committee changed how they would allow the game to be played , Davis was exposed for what he truly was- an egomaniac with an iron foot and head to match. He refused to pay his coaches. He refused to play some of his key players for transgressions he alone knew of. He paid great sums of money to horrible draft picks and washed up veterans. He was a one time lucky opportunist who made millions by steamrolling whoever got in his way. Old age and past dreams of glory ruined the Raiders for years. Surely he will be missed by those of his ilk , but not by many others.

Mmmmmm, I'm drooling, slobber slobber it's the BEST. lol

Davis became a caricature. He had great relevance giving the AFL prominence, elevating the draft and who was drafted, and bringing about the merger. And his formula with the nutjobs that made the mid-years Raiders worked. With the moves, some of the hires in the past 10-15 years, he appeared to get rather Hughesian.
